Defining my hair.
Definiendo mi cabello.
Talking about hair types I can say that mine is wavy and if we classify it according to its pattern we could say that it is a 2B, although well styled it could even be 2C, but that almost never happens, so the normal thing is that I stay with a 2B. It is of high density, that is to say that I have a lot of hair, in fact whenever I go to a salon to get a haircut they are always surprised by how much hair I have, luckily it is quite thin and well styled it gives the impression that it is not much.
My scalp is oily, in fact, I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis, which makes my hair look oily very easily, so I have to wash it quite often (every other day), so I usually make an effort to maintain a balance between constant washing and moisturizing, because it tends to dry out easily. Currently, I'm medium porosity, although it's actually been a while since I've done a porosity test as such, but based on the experience I've had with it lately, I think we're at medium porosity.
Do I like it? I love it!
¿Me gusta? ¡Me encanta!
Currently, I'm pretty happy with it, but honestly it's been a really long road to get there, many years I hated it and didn't know what to do with it, so I just flat ironed or blow dried it practically every day, which made it look worse and worse, it's not easy to have hair that is not socially accepted as pretty. I am neither straight nor curly, so for many, many, years I lived without understanding how to take care of it, I made SERIOUS mistakes that only made it look worse, which made me hate it more and more.
I remember once I was asked which part of my body I didn't like and without thinking I answered my hair, that's how horrible my relationship with it was, when for some reason I couldn't straighten it I would just pick it up and forget about it. Luckily, I have come across the curly girl method and I have worked a lot with the acceptance of my hair, plus I feel that its appearance has improved a lot, which has made me very happy and maybe even a little proud of it today.
Change it? Not really.
¿Cambiarlo? No realmente.
To cut or not to cut, that is the question.
Cortar o no cortar, he ahí el dilema.
Talking about cuts, the one I liked the most was one I did myself about a year ago, I had seen in curly girl method groups that it was highly recommended for curly hair, so I looked it up on pinterest as a double-unicorn cut and to be honest at first I didn't like the result because I thought it had been too short, but when I started styling it I saw that my waves formed so beautifully that I felt really happy, I think it's the nicest shape my hair has ever taken and the best thing is that it was free because I did it myself hahaha.
My sad story... And another one with a good ending.
Mi triste historia... Y otra con buen final.
At this point I will tell you why I started to hate my hair, this happened when I was a child and it was a little responsibility of my mother, as she constantly repeated to me that I had bad hair, that I had to straighten it because it looked ugly, it was something that unfortunately stayed in my head for many years. I remember that one of the things I hated the most was the famous roll up, I hated it because it was very uncomfortable, plus it made my head hurt, but my mind was in so bad shape that I thought it was necessary so that my hair didn't look "so bad". Another sad detail is that since I was little when they took me to cut my hair immediately after they finished cutting it they dried it so it would look "pretty", so the message that my hair was ugly and that I had bad hair was marked in my head, honestly they were not good experiences because they made a big dent in my self-esteem.
Luckily, almost two years ago I discovered that my hair was not ugly, nor was it bad, it was simply wavy and required another type of care that my mother had not taught me (or knew), since her hair is completely different from mine because she has it super straight. This change of idea happened when I met the curly girl method, which completely changed the perspective I had about my hair, I learned to style it, to nourish it, to moisturize it and, of course, to love it. These almost two years of following the CGM have also marked me, but now for the better, I have finally been able to slowly begin to leave behind the trauma I had with my hair, now I simply dedicate myself to accept it, take care of it and let it be.
