Drought casualties

Look at this guy. The lovely, ghostly Cladonia rangiferina lichen. A quite popular one that can grow both on trees and bottom of the woods. It is also called reindeer moss though it is a Lichen, not a moss. And yes - reindeers do eat it :)

It is my second favourite lichen, after the one that look like tiny little green caps.

From a distance it look like fluffy pillows where separate little balls of fluffy create carpets you just wanna lay down on.
It is not as fluffy as it looks. Pretty stiff actually.

But if you take closer look you'll see all the tiny little horns. They do look like coral to me.

Some were sharing the space with some moss that was mostly dry. The moisture it is able to hold benefits both. But when that is gone, they both dry up.

I don't know about you, but I find looking at such small things in their own little world extremely calming.

No more pastel colours.
They will soon turn to this brown, crispy mess.
