Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa) - Hardy Shrub with Medicinal Flowers and Edible Berries

Blackthorn (Prunus Spinosa) is a shrub belonging to the Rose family of plants. It’s one tough and hardy plant that’s both frost-resitant and drought-resistant. Its wood is hard and durable and the branches are covered with sharp thorns that make this forest-edge growing plant an impenetrable guardian of forest borders.

In this video I go over the identification features of Blackthorn and talk about its uses as a medicinal plant bearing edible fruits (berries, sometimes called “sloe”).

During my talk, you can hear a call of a male game bird Common Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus).

I hope the video was helpful and educational for you, but please bear in mind that I’m not an expert and may be wrong about anything I say.
