Bathua Dal Recipe

In the winter season, green vegetables like bathua are mostly used to make parathas. However, did you know that besides making dry vegetables and raita with bathua, you can also make its dal? Speaking of the benefits of bathua, it is a source of ingredients like protein and iron. Elders always recommend eating it during the cold weather. Bathua contains elements such as Vitamin A, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium. This vegetable has the power to eliminate many diseases.

Talking about other benefits of bathua, feeding it to children continuously for a few days helps in getting rid of worms in their stomach. Bathua is also beneficial in stomach pain. Boiling bathua and drinking its juice or eating it as a vegetable provides relief in skin conditions like white patches, boils, and itching. Now, let's talk about how to make bathua dal.

Ingredients:

  1. 5 types of lentils - arhar, urad, chana, mung, masoor
  2. 300 grams of bathua
  3. 2 green chilies
  4. A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
  5. Ginger-garlic
  6. Red whole pepper
  7. Mustard oil
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Cumin seeds

Method:

  1. To make it, mix all lentils and soak them for about half an hour. The lentils should be soaked well.

  1. Wash and finely chop the bathua.

  1. In a pot, add soaked lentils, bathua, salt, and turmeric. Cook on the gas stove.

  1. Wait for 3-4 whistles; as lentils take time to cook.

  2. Once the pressure releases, check if the lentils are cooked. If not, add a little water and cook further.

  1. Now, take a pan, heat oil, add cumin seeds, garlic, ginger, red chili, and asafoetida. Wait until it turns brown, then add this mixture to the lentils.

  1. The dal is now ready. You can enjoy it with roti, naan, or rice.
