What about the gate?

Hi Hive Lovers

I found a magnificent gate with the prestige it had. I took the following photos of the gate at night with an exotic look at this place of worshipin Bireun, Aceh, Indonesia.

The ornament at the top of this gate looks like a fortress. It has one main door in the middle that can be passed by four-wheeled vehicles, and two other small doors on the left and right. This gate looks majestic with golden yellow paint and is given a relief of a combination of flowers on the surface of the walls.

Unfortunately, because I was there at night, I couldn't get a view from all sides of this gate. I was only able to take a few visible photos from inside the complex because it was supported by the good lighting of the gate lights. Meanwhile, if taking photos from outside on the highway, it becomes very limited because I will not get a complete picture because my standing position is too close to the road. It is very risky and dangerous. I have to put my safety first.

Wikipedia translates the gate as a place of entry and exit into a closed area surrounded by a fence or wall. A gate is also called a door or "gapura" in Bahasa.

So I thought, what are they built for?
There are various reasons a gate is built, right?
Of course, the main thing is the purpose behind its establishment. So far, it is the purpose of the establishment that has become the main point of interest in its existence in a place, compared to its function, which is merely a way of getting in and out.

A gate can be interpreted in a variety of ways, including as a territorial identity, a symbol of territorial sovereignty, and even a historical value.

From an architectural point of view, the existence of a gate can be a material for scientific study, both in terms of function, form, technique, art, and even history.

  • As an identity;

If a gate is placed at a place or region's name, it will make it easier for people to find out information about that place or region.

  • As the front face of a territory;

With certain characteristics of a gate, its shape has its own specificity, which is usually adapted to the culture and local wisdom of a territory. The result is a marker or presents an impression of territorial sovereignty.

  • As history;

The gate is generally built as a historical marker or for an important event. Typically, this is dedicated to a memorial monument to a significant past event, so that those who see it will remember it.

But nowadays, the visualization of a gate, often just for the beauty and exoticism of architecture, the public does not know for sure the meaning behind its establishment. It's just showing splendor without reflecting any philosophical values. In my opinion, the existence of a gate that is more and more erected somewhere will degrade the meaning of a gate, - if you agree with that.

Actually, it is legal and there is nothing wrong with building a gate anywhere, but if you look at the function and importance of building a gate, then it must represent something. Compared with the existence of gates around the world. As an example, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, Germany. This gate became a symbol of European unity.

I invite you to make a post about the meaning of the gate that is around you. Or if you have a different opinion, then you can give your views freely in the comments column of this post.
