Burano, Italy: charming urbanism on the water

Hello archi lovers!

Today a special and magical place, which almost seems like a fantasy setting. It is another island also close to Venice, in Italy. I recently shared a post about Murano, an island famous for its ancient glass manufacturing. But there are more islands in that area, so now here we continue sailing through the Adriatic Sea towards Burano.

A similar name, and a similar atmosphere on Burano island (not Murano).

Here there are no factories of colored glass, here the same houses are the ones that give color to our sight and to everything that emerges from the water. Because this little island is a treasure, as is Venice itself. A great work or simply urbanism that firmly adapts to nature itself, can you live on the sea?

There is life on the sea, there are beautiful places that demonstrate it, for centuries, with daring urbanism and with strong and stable poles that continue to stick out, supporting everything while the water level does not seem to want to bother those small populations that live here very calmly in a unique and charming place.

Coquettish are each of the houses that we see in perspective, humble perhaps or rather from another era, but very worthily preserved, with many colors that stood out among all, each one in its own style, each one is the same but different.

And walking through those narrow streets is a pleasure, because everything is clean and beautiful, it doesn't take much, just a bit of good taste, so the balconies and windows are accompanied by beautiful flowers that further embellish this urban environment fused with the elements.

The water is part of the entire urban fabric, it flows calmly through the canals, and with respect it seems to enter the streets of the small city. The small bridges allow us to cross from one place to another, visit more corners, among a game of shadows, we carefully cross more streets looking if any have no end...

Together with the wind, our voices seem to reverberate in the waters that accompany us from the side at every step. By surprise we found some unexpected place, or a place to have a drink. And we arrive at the church, there are also emblematic buildings that, despite their different shape, here attract less attention but they are part of all this romantic environment.

The streets, canals and facades call our attention more, square facades of two heights and intense colors that compete even with the same sunlight or, in reality, they change their tonality and intensity with the passing of the hours, until at sunset everything darkens...

And again also in this other wonderful magical island there is also silence, calm and tranquility, a lot of color but everything is at peace. The boats are already resting until the next day parked on the sides of the canals, each one in a place, in front of their own house.

The people in their homes, the rest of us leave, we sail again leaving those waters that rest in the canals between rows of charming, small and happy houses. Where time seems, here too, to stop, the water does not flow simply remains in harmony with everything built on it, rocking the island of Burano in a dream, the dream of a small colored city that is not a fantasy, it is a real place that has enchanted us.
