Bastard Coffee & Kitchen: industrial design, brunch & more

Hello archi lovers!

Today a more innovative post, normally I focus more on the architecture of the different places I visit and not so much on the design of shops, bars or establishments, but since I have seen here in this community some interesting posts from this perspective, I also wanted to share one of my own.

And it is that recently I had to go out to eat, and I did not think much, I took advantage now that in summer there are almost no students in the area where I was to be able to eat in a curious place that is usually always full, people inside with computers, they like to work there with the wi-fi and people outside enjoying the brunch menus they offer, global and trendy food that, especially young people, a target audience because it is a university area, likes it.

I like too from time to time, but during the year it's hard to get a table without reserving or having to go through, but in summer now, everything is quiet, even half empty, so they serve you right away, and I've had the chance to take some photos without too many people.

Bastard Coffee & Kitchen

Bastard Coffee & Kitchen is located in a corner of what was once a furniture store if I remember correctly... and for its decoration it seems that they decided to tear everything down, leaving bare walls and ceilings in order to achieve a totally industrial look.

We can see the cables of the lamps on the ceilings, concrete-colored walls, all rough and coarse, without much ornamentation but quite the opposite. From the outside it is hardly recognizable except for the large logos on the windows, and inside without a doubt one element stands out above all else, the focal point of attention, the BEAR graffiti!
(I have edited this: not a wolf but a bear! jaja that's true, thanks @peter-stone I looked this wrong 😅😅😅)

Next to it, the bar and the kitchen, under iron beams and with modern posters that go together with all the industrial style of the New York loft, a cool, carefree and almost neglected atmosphere, but in reality, surely very well thought out.

Thick shelves with a simple and minimalist decoration, in the area of the large common table, where many customers spend hours (studying?), the wall also stands out for its original decoration, a meandering pipe that almost looks like a video game and at least there are some plants that provide a vivid and colorful contrast to those neutral and dark tones.

The modern is also combined with the old like the style of the wooden chairs, or with the very used, as in another of the walls simply adorned with a kind of large mirror, also very suitable for an industrial atmosphere.

Everything is simple, with some touches, all in the same line, and surely it is the plants and lamps that give it a warmer and more pleasant touch, otherwise the space would be too cold. Thus, a subtle balance is achieved without losing that casual and industrial air that they have clearly wanted to highlight.

And the food?

Well, it's not a food post, but somehow the food is related to the style of the place. I have mentioned the brunch menu before, there are also English breakfasts and eggs with hollandaise sauce, all very international, but already at a late hour to eat, they also have a classic menu, or an eclectic one: Russian salad (that's what we call it, although I think it's called “Didier” salad, more innovative with lime zest, very fresh for summer), accompanied by crunchy marinated chicken in batter with special mayonnaise, and as a main course a hamburger with egg and straw potatoes.

The very New York dessert, cakes! brownie and cheesecake, when you are already full but still you do an effort jaja

They have American food, brunches, English breakfasts, as well as more Mediterranean food, varied and, as we said, eclectic, modern, functional, well-cooked and with good flavor. People like it, the food and I think the place too, and I liked that for once it wasn't so crowded and so I could eat in there and share this total industrial design with you.
