F.E.E.D.I.N.G: Adam's First Time Celebrating Nutrition Month In School

Few years ago when the pandemic hit the world, the way of learning changed. Schools conducted classes through the modular way of learning or online classes. In this way, many events had not been experienced by many students but after two years of not being able to go to school, now the school has slowly started limited face-to-face classes again. My kids can now go to school and can see other kids aside from their siblings but still follow safety health protocols to ensure everyone's safety.

Everyone's safety is always important that's why there are only limited students to go to school. Wearing a facemask and observing social distancing is still there but sometimes kids especially those younger ones like kindergarten or garden 1 pupils can't follow this one because they are still innocent of what's going on around them. That's why adult supervision is always present at school to secure our kid's safety.

Ever since the pandemic happened, many things change. No celebrations were held at schools like Buwan ng Wika, Nutrition Month, and many more. But now that they are slowly opening F2F classes, the school starts to celebrate some important events again like Nutrition month, and documented it. Since Adam had been selected to have a special class every Sunday to Thursday, he got the privilege to learn new lessons. He also had the chance to celebrate Nutrition Month together with his teacher and classmates.

During the first day of the celebration, the teacher and parents prepared sliced bread filled with pancit bihon and after consuming those, the fruit salad was then distributed to the kids. Kids especially Adam were so happy with the food and even told me, "Thank you Lord and to the teachers for giving us delicious foods." He was so thankful for it, especially for the fruit salad. He said it was so yummy and creamy. At first, he didn't want to taste the yellow ingredients in the fruit salad because he wasn't sure what is it so he let me taste it first. When I said that it was mango, he then fastly consumed his share.

I am happy that during Adam's first step of his studies, he can celebrate this kind of event in school. As a mother who witness and experienced this when I was young, I also wanted it to be experienced by my kids and thankful that they can.

Here's the second day of celebrating
nutrition month. They were given vegetable
soup with rice and banana. Adam was able
to consume his share and was happy to
know that his tummy was filled after their
class. He said that he was too full and he
won't be eating his lunch at home since
he already had his early lunch in school
at around 11 AM.

On the third day, their food was
the same on the second day. Vegetable
soup, rice, and banana. This time I wasn't
assisting him because they had the other
grade level (grade 6) who had guided and
assisted them in the eating area.

Nutrition month celebration is not only about feeding children but also letting kids adopt healthy living and letting them know how important it is to consume healthy foods. Consuming healthy foods can prevent an individual from getting sick always so it's important to eat healthy foods especially right now that there are still some cases of Covid-19 in other places. To have strong immune system, foods with higher amount of vitamins and minerals should be taken.

Giving opportunity to Adam to have special classes doesn't only let him learn new sets of knowledge but also gives him the great privilege to celebrate this while he is still in the Kindergarten level. The next school year will be another set of experiences for him and by that time he already has knowledge of what Nutrition Month is and when and why it is celebrated.

To the teachers and active parents in school, I'm thankful to them for letting kids experience this celebration. It only happens once a year and it will surely give good memories to the kids, especially to Kindergarten and Grade 1 pupils who have celebrated it for the first time.

That's all for today!
Happy Sunday everyone
