Since my friend Nan gave me this mate in March 2021, it has not stopped walking with me: every time I go on a trip, it is the first thing I keep in my luggage. For us Argentines, "mate" cannot be missing at all times, and having my own mate team is one of the things I definitely needed. From then until now, this mate has seen beaches, mountains, rivers, lakes; He has traveled by car, bus, plane and even by boat. It is an inevitable companion, and I hope we continue to visit many beautiful places ❤️.
Desde que mi amigo Nan me regaló este mate en Marzo 2021 no ha dejado de pasear conmigo: cada vez que me voy de viaje, es lo primero que guardo en mi equipaje. Para nosotros los argentinos no puede faltar el "mate" a toda hora, y tener mi propio equipo de mate es una de las cosas que definitamente necesitaba. Desde allí hasta ahora, este mate ha visto playas, montañas, ríos, lagos; ha viajado en auto, micro, avión e incluso hasta en barco. Es un compañero infaltable, y espero que sigamos conociendo muchos lugares hermosos ❤️.
During our stay at the beach this last summer, we could not miss the afternoons of drinking mate on the beach. Well, actually we've been drinking mate since we got up, but drinking it on the beach is a tradition. The days were beautiful and we were able to take advantage of the outdoors as much as we could. When we finished our daily work, we prepared all the mate equipment and things for the beach and we just looked for a place to rest a bit 😀.
Durante nuestra estadía en la playa este último verano, no podían faltar las tardes de tomar mate en la playa. Bueno, en realidad tomamos mate desde que nos levantamos, pero tomar en la playa es una tradición. Los días estuvieron hermosos y pudimos aprovechar el aire libre todo lo que pudimos. Cuando terminabamos nuestros trabajos diarios, preparabamos todo el equipo de mate y cosas de la playa y solo buscábamos un lugar para descansar un poco 😃.
After having visited Varese Beach, this became our favorite and we chose it to go for a snack there. This spa was very nice, they played music and people were in a good mood. Despite the fact that it was already after 5 PM, we still went into the sea: we would freeze a bit because the sun was not so strong, but later we compensated with some hot mates. The only thing I didn't like about this beach is that there weren't any street vendors selling something greasy and floury for snacks, but it didn't matter because we had our own snacks 😅.
Después de haber visitado la Playa Varese, esta se convirtió en nuestra preferida y la elegíamos para ir a merendar allá. Este balneario era muy lindo, pasaban música y la gente estaba de buen humor. A pesar de que ya eran más de las 5 PM, igual nos metíamos al mar: nos congelábamos un poco porque el sol no era tan fuerte, pero después compensabamos con unos mates calientes. Lo único que no me gustó de esta playa es que no había ningún vendedor ambulante vendiendo alguna cosa grasosa y llena de harina para la merienda, pero no importaba porque nosotras teníamos nuestros propios refrigerios 😅.
In case you are wondering what a "mate" is, this is a traditional drink that is drunk in Argentina and surroundings like Paraguay and Uruguay. It is an infusion that is prepared mainly with an herb called "yerba mate" and hot water, and it is served in a container with a bombilla like this one. Then, each one adds ingredients to her taste, such as sugar, sweetener, other flavored herbs or even citrus peels such as lemon or orange. There is also its equivalent with cold water, called Tereré, but we still drink boiled mate even if we are very hot 😅.
En caso de que te estes preguntando que es un "mate", esta es una bebida tradicional que se toma en Argentina y alrededores como Paraguay y Uruguay. Es una infusión que se prepara principalmente con una hierba llamada "yerba mate" y agua caliente, y se sirve en un recipiente con bombilla como este. Después, cada quien añade ingredientes a su gusto, como puede ser azúcar, edulcorante, otras hierbas saborizadas o incluso cáscaras de cítricos como limón o naranja. También existe su equivalente con agua fría, llamado Tereré, pero igual nosotros tomamos mate hervido aunque tengamos muchísimo calor 😅.
This same "mate" is shared among all the members of the group, something that was suspended during the times of the pandemic to avoid the spread of Covid. During this time, each one of us had to get used to having our own container to prepare mate and there are even people who still do not share it to this day. I personally relaxed with this since I got vaccinated, which is when I went back to sharing mate with others. This is a social drink almost like beer: in a meeting it cannot be missing, I would even say that it is the excuse to encourage gossip, or just to hang out in a beautiful place like the beach 😅.
Este mismo "mate" se comparte entre todos los miembros del grupo, algo que fue suspendido durante los tiempos de pandemia para evitar el contagio de Covid. Durante este tiempo, cada uno de nosotros tuvo que acostumbrarse a tener su propio recipiente para preparar mate e incluso hay gente que sigue sin compartirlo hasta el día de hoy. Yo personalmente me relajé con esto desde que me vacuné, que es cuando volví a compartir mate con otros. Esta es una bebida social casi como la cerveza: en una reunión no puede faltar, hasta diría que es la excusa para fomentar el chusmerío, o solo para pasar el rato en un lugar hermoso como la playa 😅.
After a few hours, our afternoon of laughter and gossip began to be threatened by some dark clouds. Although the forecast had announced some rain for the night, we were hopeful that it was a bad prediction, although we later saw that the clouds did not say the same. We stayed drinking mate until the last minute: not even the most terrible rain was going to make us leave our walk quickly 😅.
Después de unas horas, nuestra tarde de risas y cotilleos se empezó a ver amenzada por unas nubes un poco oscuras. Si bien el pronóstico había anunciado algo de lluvia para la noche, teníamos la esperanza de que haya sido una mala predicción, aunque después vimos que las nubes no decían lo mismo. Nos quedamos tomando mate hasta el último minuto: ni la lluvia más terrible iba a hacer que nos fuéramos rápido de nuestro paseo 😅.
The beach was the last destination of my traveling mate, but luckily he already has a trip to the mountains scheduled for next week. My friend Nan told me that he feels that this mate is like his "Horcrux" and that when we travel, his soul travels with us too. I found this very cute: this mate has great sentimental value to me and I'm glad it does to him too. At first it was light pink, but from so much going back and forth and using it, it's getting a bit old. In the event that at some point it becomes very deteriorated, I'm surely going to ask him to touch up the drawing: I definitely do not want any other than this one! ❤️
La playa fue el último destino de mi mate viajero, pero por suerte ya tiene un viaje a las montañas programado para la semana que viene. Mi amigo Nan me dijo que siente que este mate es como su "Horrocrux" y que cuando viajamos, su alma viaja con nosotros también. Esto me pareció muy tierno: este mate tiene un gran valor sentimental para mí y me alegro que para él también. Al principio era rosa claro, pero de tanto ir y venir y usarlo se está avejentando un poco. En caso de que en algún momento se vuelva muy deteriorado, seguramente le voy a pedir que le de un retoque al dibujo: ¡definitivamente no quiero otro que no sea este! ❤️
