Besides being famous for its beautiful mountain scenery and abundant snow in winter, the city of Bariloche is also known for its excellence in chocolates. After the classic excursions in the area, such as touring the Circuito Chico, visiting the Llao Llao Hotel or doing some skiing on Cerro Catedral, there is always the almost obligatory stop in the city centre to buy some chocolates. On the main street it is possible to find a few chocolate shops, where tourists can stroll around and taste some while deciding on their favourites. If you haven't eaten chocolate, have you really been on a trip to Bariloche 😅?
Además de ser famosa por sus hermosos paisajes montañosos y abundante nieve en invierno, la ciudad de Bariloche también es conocida por su excelencia en chocolates. Después de las excursiones clásicas de la zona, como recorrer el Circuito Chico, visitar el Hotel Llao Llao o hacer algo de sky en el Cerro Catedral, siempre está incluida la parada casi obligatoria al centro de la ciudad para ir a comprar algunos chocolates. En la calle principal es posible encontrar unas cuantas chocolaterías, por las que los turistas pueden pasear y degustar algunos, mientras se deciden por sus preferidos. ¿Si no comiste chocolate, realmente estuviste de viaje en Bariloche 😅?
After having passed through the cities of San Martín de Los Andes and Villa La Angostura in Neuquén, our motorhome finally arrived in Bariloche in the province of Río Negro. There we were scheduled for our longest stay, which was to last a total of five nights. By the time we arrived, many of my fellow travellers were excited to get out and explore the city and buy some chocolate. This was my eighth time in Bariloche and I already know the centre pretty well, but I still agreed to a night walk to see what I could try this time 😅.
Después de haber pasado por las ciudades de San Martín de Los Andes y Villa La Angostura en Neuquén, nuestro motorhome finalmente llegó a Bariloche en la provincia de Río Negro. Allí tendríamos programada la estadía más larga, que duraría en total cinco noches. Para cuando llegamos, muchos de mis compañeros de viaje estaban emocionados por salir a recorrer la ciudad y comprar un poco de chocolate. Esta fue la octava vez que estuve en Bariloche y ya conozco bastante bien el centro, pero igualmente acepté un paseo nocturno para ver qué podía probar esta vez 😅.
On Bariloche's main street, called Mitre, you can find the largest number of chocolate shops in the city. There are big franchises known in other parts of the country, such as Mamushka and Rapanuí, but also local ones like El Reino de Los Chocolates and El Turista. In addition, many other small chocolate shops are also trying to break into the business and display their products in shop windows on the street. It seems that there is room for everyone, because all these shops are always very busy 😃.
En la calle principal de Bariloche, llamada Mitre, se pueden encontrar la mayor cantidad de chocolaterías de la ciudad. Hay franquicias muy grandes y conocidas en otros puntos del país, como Mamushka y Rapanuí, pero también otras locales como El Reino de Los Chocolates y El Turista. Además, muchas otras pequeñas chocolaterías también quieren abrirse paso en este negocio y exponen sus productos en vidrieras a la calle. Pareciera que hay lugar para todos, porque todos estos negocios siempre estan bastante concurridos 😃.
The first time I went to Bariloche I was 17 years old and I would love to know what the price of chocolate was at that time, but by then I was just a teenager who was interested in other things so I don't even remember. Now, since I'm the one who has to pay for it, I like to look for the best price/quality ratio there is. On this visit I was surprised at how expensive a kilo of chocolate is: on average, it costs between 40,000 and 50,000 ARS ($30 - $38 approx), being only slightly cheaper if it's filled chocolates and not pure chocolate. If you want to bring chocolate as a souvenir for your family, it is best to go with a separate budget especially for this purpose 😂.
La primera vez que fui a Bariloche tenía 17 años y me encantaría saber qué precio tenía el chocolate en ese momento, pero para entonces solo era una adolescente que le interesaban otras cosas así que ni siquiera lo recuerdo. Ahora, como soy la que tiene que pagarlo, me gusta buscar la mejor relación de precio y calidad que haya. En esta visita me sorprendió lo costoso que es el kilo de chocolate: en promedio, cuesta entre 40.000 y 50.000 ARS ($30 - $38 aprox), siendo apenas un poco más económico si se trata de bombones rellenos y no de chocolate puro. Si tu deseo es llevar chocolate de recuerdo a tu familia, lo mejor es que vayas con un presupuesto aparte especialmente destinado a esto 😂.
The good thing about these chocolate shops is that in their competitive sales strategies, given that there is literally one shop next to another, is that almost all of them give you free samples to taste. Of course, my travel companions and I took advantage of this to try all the options. This time, one of my companions and I were interested in a small artisan chocolate shop, which told us that all its ingredients were vegan. They gave us a taste of some chocolate and that was enough to make us decide to buy some more. For these triple alfajores we paid 2400 ARS each ($1.8), which to me didn't seem that expensive for such a product. What do you think of this price?
Lo bueno que tienen estas chocolaterías es que en sus competitivas estrategias de venta, dado que literalmente hay un negocio al lado del otro, es que casi todos te dan muestras gratis para degustar. Por supuesto que mis compañeros de viaje y yo aprovechamos esto para probar todas las opciones. Este vez, una de mis compañeras y yo nos interesamos por una pequeña chocolatería artesanal, que nos dijo que todos sus ingredientes eran veganos. Nos dieron de probar un poco de chocolate y eso bastó para que nos decidiéramos por comprarles algo más. Por estos alfajores triples pagamos 2400 ARS cada uno ($1.8), lo que a mí no me pareció tan costoso por un producto de este tipo. ¿Qué les parece este precio?
It is true that walking along Mitre Street in Bariloche in search of good chocolates is an excursion in itself. The sale of this product is a classic in this city, regardless of the time of the year when you make your trip. In my case, I always take some chocolate to share with my family, but since this time it was a long trip that had just begun, I had already warned that there would be no gifts from Bariloche. With that excuse, the chocolates I bought were all for myself, and I don't regret it because they are always delicious ❤️.
Es cierto que recorrer la calle Mitre de Bariloche en busca de buenos chocolates es toda una excursión en sí misma. La venta de este producto representa un clásico de esta ciudad, independientemente de momento del año en el que hagas tu viaje. En mi caso, siempre suelo llevar un poco de chocolate para compartir con mi familia, pero como esta vez era un viaje largo que recién comenzaba, ya había avisado que no habría regalos de Bariloche. Con esa excusa, los chocolates que compré fueron todos para mí, y no me arrepiento porque siempre son buenísimos ❤️.
