The Shortest Day Of The Year Is Here - Slightly Brighter Short Films

Today December 21st is the shortest day of the year and the sun rises at 9:43 and sets at 15:01 here in Tampere, Finland. To celebrate this, here's my short movie and animation list for this year. As usual, two posts coming, one for the bright day and one for the dark night.

Let's get to it then shall we? Courageously just do what you want, I mean, what could go wrong?

Oh Darrel, oh Darrel. Good things happen. Just not to you. But things could also be worse. You could have been the cute girl. (I did mention in the tittle: slightly brighter...)

Let's see what happens to these knitted friends.

Sort of a happy ending. Hopeful at least.

I have to say that I truly admire puppet animations. The physical objects truly come alive and the amount of work that is put to build everything must be just staggering. There's no short cuts, no previous scenery libraries or algorithms that you can use to generate the characters. You have to build everything with your hands.

Here's a second one.

But of course CGI animations can also be mind blowing. Especially if they mimic real life and do it well. Or mimic puppet animations. All the beauty of fine details and also the endless possibilities of believable movement and other textures that aren't possible with puppets or miniatures.

Here's one and of course there has to be at least one about Santa since Christmas eve is so close.

HO! HO! HO!

Next one. Dream and believe. Life is a bit of a disappointment sometimes but you have to be persistent and not let the reality discourage you.

Dream BIG!

Moving on to cats.

So true. So adorable. Cats.

I think that's enough for now, I'll schedule the second part to the exact time when the sun sets (Finnish time) and I promise you, it's time to go properly to the dark side.
