Environmental Conservation; Making an Impact!

Making an impact in our world and in our environment begins with you and me. Of course we know that little drops of water make an ocean; in other words, everyone's little contribution can make a significant impact on having a safe environment to live in.

There are a lot of things to worry about in our environment, such as different kinds of pollution, global warming, etc.; however, our environment remains very vital for humanity, so adopting a good approach to protect our environment and conserving it against negativity remains our job as individuals to ensure a more healthy environment in which people can thrive.

As an individual, it's my duty to protect and conserve my environment in order to contribute to living a good lifestyle. Personally, these are a few of my practices so far within my environment to ensure a growing community devoid of pollution...

Proper waste disposal: the government of the city of Lagos, Nigeria, where I reside, has made this aspect so easy for most people to practice, as a fine would be paid for anyone caught throwing away used plastic or nylon on the road. Do you know that disposed-of plastic that is not recycled can pollute the environment? Do you also know that these plastics can pollute the seas and rivers, making the water harmful for humans to consume? This is why disposing of plastic wherever you find yourself in your environment isn't a good idea. For us to conserve our environment and live safely, this habit must be stopped. You see, it's in our hands to stop it and make our environment safe. I am always conscious of this to the point that I eat snacks or bottle water and keep the trash in my bag until I get home to discard in the bin. If many people can cut down on what they throw away on the street, then we will be close to protecting our environment from pollution.

Educating the public: Creating public awareness was one practice I did through our estate chairman. I once mentioned this in my post about how we suffered flooding due to how messy our gutter got over plastic and nylon, making it difficult for water to move freely during rainfall. It looked as if our community had no drainage system at all, but it was affected by pollution. I felt that many people are ignorant of what causes pollution in our environment. They were made to be aware of the consequences. Sincerely, this education created a bigger difference, and I felt fulfilled for the bold approach I took in meeting our estate chairman to express my concern and educate him, and he educated the masses during one of our community development meetings.

Volunteer for clean-ups in my environment: At first, I thought to myself, Why volunteer to do this work once in a while as requested by our community chairman when we are paying for security and cleaning? But on a second thought, I felt it was a community service and it's good to get involved in protecting our environment.

There are still several ways we can contribute our quota individually to help the environment without waiting for the government or any corporate bodies, and these are the few things I do as an individual in my community.

What are you doing to conserve your environment? Or do you contribute to pollution?

Thanks for reading through!!!
