Greetings from Corfu

Good morning folks. It is Easter Sunday for all Orthodox Christians! Christ is alive and winner against death, against fear and misery. Love, health and dignity for the whole world.

Iam for a short trip in Corfu, a greek island in Ionian Sea. Corfu is the best destination, to live the Orthodox Easter. The picturesque streets, the many small churches in the city center, the customs of each neighborhood but also all this mysterious spirit, helps you to feel all this spiritual uplift

In addition to the usual customs that take place during the Holy week, such as the procession of the Epitaph on Holy Friday with the presence of many philharmonic orchestras.

In Corfu the remarkable event is the breaking of the Botides. The Botides are large, clay jars full of water, where on Holy Saturday they are thrown from above in Liston Square. This custom dates back to the period of the ancient Greeks, who in April celebrated the beginning of the agricultural and vegetative period, throwing their old jugs to fill the new ones with new fruits.

Of course on the fist minutes of the resurrection of our lord, the sky is covered with fireworks.

If you are in Corfu, do not forget to try a local goa. Its ideal after religious fasting and it will tastefully reward even the most demanding!
