Hi hivers, hope you are all doing well. Today I will share a beautiful beetle. These are commonly known as gem aphids but there are types of gem aphids which are woodlice, but this one is aphids. Scutelleridae is a true insect family. Because of their spectacular coloration, they are sometimes known as gem ticks or metal armor ticks. Due to the expansion of the thoracic scutellum into a continuous shield over the abdomen and wings, they are also known as shield-supported insects. This last feature distinguishes them from most other Heteroptera families, and it can lead to misidentification as beetles rather than bugs. Plant juices of various species, including some commercial crops, are consumed by these insects. They are closely related to stink bugs, and when disturbed, they can emit an unpleasant odor. There are about 450 species on the planet.
