Cut-Paper Art “The Future is Now”
I created this cut-paper artwork before. I digitally retouched the frame color of the cut-paper art a little bit this time. When I originally created this artwork, I simply cut out the paper and attached colored paper behind the cut-paper art. I used Japanese traditional Sharaku artwork cards, many colorful flyers, snack packages, and more.
I won the Sharaku cards when I bought Japanese dried food before. I kept these cards for my collage artwork. I put many messages for this lady’s kimono dress design and her background. There are “sustainability,” “green-eco,” “No-Nuke,” “No-more-War,” “Enjoy Life,” “Eat Healthy (sushi symbols),” “Mental Health Care,” “Respect Indigenous People” messages and more.
However…, this lady is as you know, a Japanese old prostitute lady which was called an Oiran. Ladies’ lives were very tough in the past more than now. Additionally, she is smoking. Her smoke surrounds her. Why I put the title “The Future is Now” for this artwork is… yes, our lives are not easy. We can’t change things easily even though we want to get out from our difficult situations.
We often concentrate about the “future” in our lives. Yet, I think the future is now. The future is connected to our past and current situations. In short, now is very important. I know that we can’t change everything quickly like this lady once we get stuck . She is a prostitute lady who is stuck in a tough life without any choice. Her life is physically and mentally unhealthy for sure but she realizes and is aware that the future is now.
I wanted to describe our possibilities to feel hope or dream even though our lives are tough, stuck in bad situations, unable to change now, no way to upgrade, depressed, miserable, no hope, and more… Umm… I don’t want to be too spiritual or philosophical but I simply don’t want everyone to lose hope in our world. Additionally, I wanted to describe a tough theme through pop-looking vivid artwork because we need to see something colorful! I imagine I projected my life through this lady as well.
I believe that everyone has different opinions, persuasion, or way of understanding of any artwork. I want to hear everyone’s thoughts or way to receive this artwork.
切り絵「未来とは今である」
この切り絵は以前作成したものです。今回はフレームの色を少しデジタルで修正しました。以前切り絵を作った時、切り抜いてから後ろに色紙を貼りました。写楽のアートのカード、色鮮やかなチラシ、お菓子のパッケージなどを使いました。
写楽の絵カードは、以前ドライフードを購入した時の付録で、コラージュアートに使用するためにとっておいたものです。着物の柄や背景のデザインにはいろんなメッセージを込めました。「サスティナビリティ」、「エコ」、「反原発」、「反戦」、「生活を楽しむ」、「健康的な食生活 (寿司のシンボル)」、「メンタルヘルスのケア」、「先住民の方々への尊敬」などなど。
しかし…、ご存知の通りこの女性は花魁です。女性の人生はかなりタフです。キセルでタバコも吸っています。キセルの煙が彼女を包み込んでいます。なぜ「未来とは今である」というタイトルをつけたかというと、もちろん私たちの暮らしは一筋縄ではいきません。困難な状況から抜け出して、変化を遂げる事は容易ではありません。
わたし達はよく人生の「未来」に集中することがあります。でも、未来とは今なのではないかと思うのです。未来は過去や現在とと繋がっています。つまり今は重要です。この女性のように一度難しい状況に追い込まれると、簡単には抜け出せません。自分の意思に反した過酷な花魁人生です。そんな肉体的にも精神的にも健康的ではない彼女が、未来は今であると気づいたのです。
大変な人生を過ごす中、悪環境にはまって抜け出せずにいる中、今すぐ変わる事はできない中、はいあがる事が不可能な中、鬱々とする中、悲惨な中、希望も見出せない中、それでも希望や夢を少しだけ見出すことはできるかも知れないということを表現したかったのです。スピリチュアル的や哲学的な事をあれこれ言いたいのではなく、単純に人々がこの世で希望を失ってほしくないという気持ちを表現したかったのです。それからこのようなタフなテーマを、明るい色合いのアートで表現したかったのです。自分自身の人生をこの女性に投影して表現したのかも知れません。
観る人によってそれぞれアートの受け取り方や意見や見解は違うものだと思います。みなさんのこのアートの受け取り方や意見も色々と聞いてみたいです。
