The Rescue of the Seagull

Florinda is a young woman who lives with her mother in a house near the beach. They grow beach grapes, which they pack in boxes to take to the market in that town and sell them. She also enjoys swimming and fishing. Near the beach there is a lagoon where seagulls have formed a habitat.

In her free time, the young woman goes to the beach to fish, of what she catches she gives a part to the seagulls, when they see her coming they move their little tails with their plumage that look like windmill fins. In this way, she shows her joy, because she brings them food. When she approaches the seagulls, they peck at her hands as a sign of gratitude for the food served. In addition, the young lady caresses their little heads, they place them downwards as a sign of communication.

The next day, Florinda goes with her mother to the market to sell her boxes of beach grapes. When she finishes selling, she goes to the fishmonger's to buy herring to take to the seagulls in the lagoon. As she leaves the fishmonger's, she walks past a store selling pet food, looks around a corner and is surprised to see a captive seagull in a cage with a sign that says "For Sale". Very angry, she turns to the store owner: "Please release that little animal, does it like being locked up in a cage?

"No, I wouldn't like it! A lady left it to sell it, with that money she will buy medicine". Pale, very trembling with anger that she could not hide, she says to him:
"Then sell me that bird". He sold it to her.

As soon as she arrived home, she took supplies to bring to her friends, loaded the cage with the seagull and walked to the lagoon.

When the seagulls of the lagoon saw her they did not go to meet her, they were petrified, she caressed their heads and they rejected her. In spite of this attitude, the young woman thought they were jealous; she went to them and spoke to them:

"Dear friends, I love you very much, Today I brought this companion, who is captive" She paused and then continued:

"We are going to free her to be like you, what I did was to rescue her, they were going to sell her".
They lowered their heads in a nodding gesture. Then the young woman opened the door of the cage, so that the bird could fly, but it did not, its legs were trembling, it was frightened.

Florinda said:

"Do you want me to tell you something, this little bird since it was born was stolen by a greedy hand from its colony and from then on it has been in captivity."

The seagulls began to emit sounds through their beaks, thus communicating with Florinda, who replied:

"Therefore, you will have to teach her to fly and to share with her all the teachings you know".

The young woman distributed the fish, and they all ate with great appetite, from that moment on they accepted the new companion.

The young lady before leaving for home said to her: treat the new one with affection, she has not had what you have had: "Free!" Then she made affection on their heads and said goodbye:

"See you tomorrow."

They moved their tail feathers and their heads as a sign of farewell.
A few days later, the new gull socialized with all her companions,

managing to communicate with each other and organize into groups. They taught her to fly.

The next day, Florinda, as usual, went to the lagoon to visit them and bring them fish. She was amazed to see the new Seagull soaring high in the air. Its tail bristled with the speed of the wind, similar to the ellipses of a steel bird. Her heart swelled with joy to see so much solidarity among these seagulls.
