I Spent The Money By Mistake.

My brother, Bolaji, trusts me so much with his money so he has always kept his money with me for so long. Even when I don’t have any personal money, if you check my account balance, you will surely see some money there but it belongs to my brother and a lot of my friends usually find it very hard to believe this.
This has been happening right from when he gained admission into the University until the time I disappointed him because something I didn’t expect happened.
That afternoon, Bolaji called me that he wanted to send some money into my account.

”Hello sis, I will be sending thirty thousand Naira to you but I want to confirm if it is the same account number I should send it to,” he said to me.

I responded positively which meant that it is the same account number he will be sending the money into. Bolaji didn’t even bother to ask me about the money he kept with me because he was so sure that I was never going to spend the money he kept with me. That’s just me. I’m that kind of girl who will never go close to someone’s money just because the money was kept with me no matter how broke I am.

One day, I went to a restaurant and I already promised my friends that I was going to foot their bills. This doesn’t happen all the time and my friends also foot my bill so it is not a big deal.
When we got to the restaurant, we all ordered food the way we lied and even acted like we owned the whole restaurant.
Hey, do you have chicken and chips? Also, add their bills to mine,” I told the attendant.
When it was time to pay the money, I tried making a transfer from my bank account and not the other bank account my brother sends the money to. I tried it three times and when it was the third time, the transaction was successful. My account was debited but the restaurant hadn’t received the alert. And if they do not receive the alert of the money I sent, they would not let me go. That’s their policy and I can’t blame them for that because people can be very funny and there are a lot of fake transfers out there so they are always careful of the people they can let go of even when they haven’t received their alerts.

I felt very embarrassed and wanted to do the bank transfer again. This time, I chose to make the transfer from the money my brother sent to me so that when they receive the alert, they can always refund and I will refund my brother too. He didn’t know about this but I was so sure that before my brother asks for his money, I am surely going to get the bank transfer issue solved.
To my surprise, the money was not reversed into my account and I went back to the restaurant but I was told that they didn’t receive the alert. Immediately, I went to the bank and went to the complaint counter straight.

”Good afternoon, madam. I made a transfer of twenty five thousand naira to an account but they told me that they haven’t received the alert and the money hasn’t been reversed to me,” I said to the banker and she immediately checked it online and realized that the error was from her bank.
She told me that the money will be reversed to me in seven working days. I didn’t panic because I never knew my brother was going to call for his money.

The next day, my brother called me to send him his money that he had an emergency and he needed to solve the issue right away. I was just blank because I didn’t know what to say to him. I could not even tell him that I borrowed his money to pay for the outing my friends and I went.
I began to murmur on the phone because I knew there was nowhere I could get that money from.

”Why would you spend the money I gave to you without letting me
Know about it?.
Now, I want to make use of it but I can’t,” my brother said to me and I knew he was damn angry at me. I apologized and I sent the money to him immediately after it got reversed from the bank.
This thought me a big lesson that I should never count my chickens before the hatch.
