Reliving A Time In The Past - Creative Non-Fiction

Lying down on my bed, wide awake and thinking back to a time in my teen age that has left me an unforgettable memory. I would smile whenever I think of all that happened at that time but it wasn't all smiles when it actually happened.

We had this group which rehearsed and presented songs at musical competitions and events but my memory takes me back to when we started, it was a first for everyone but we all had the positive drive to get past our first no matter how hard it seemed at that time.

We can do it! We just have to keep that in mind always... Our coordinator would always use those words to close our weekly rehearsals.

We knew we could do it but it was hard not to talk about our fears of being rejected at first presentation as we were not sure of what was acceptable by our audience and judges. Thinking back now, all that feeling played the role in getting us to have won and moved forward.

Not that pitch! You can't keep repeating that same mistake! You are way to slow! We need to do better than this! screams of becoming better from our coordinator.

But these words did seem to act as discouragement to our little faith of winning as first timers in the musical presentation experience. Thinking back now, we only wanted it to be a best first time so we all turned ourselves to perfectionists in how we planned to present our songs to the audience.

We met more than usual for rehearsals, time became even more important for us to use wisely and productively until the D-day when we were called upon to take up the stage as the musicians we had raised ourselves to be.

It was the first time to let our voices heard by a large audience, we knew we had to make it all right so we could move on from being first timers and we needed it to be a great memory for us. Before we opened our voices, I could see through my nervous state, our coordinator doing all he could to keep us calm.

We had faith in us but it was obviously not enough, we came up with the plan at the last minute to hold hands, stare in our eyes and assured ourselves one last time that we got the whole thing in control. It was a time of bliss as I remember it to be, we got the confidence we needed and began to sing.

Like a replay in my head, I could see us singing so beautifully with smiles on our faces and our audience having a good time with our music. Bowing to close the song was a little difficult as we were so excited to have crossed the first timer bridge, we jumped in happiness as we got down from the stage back to our seats.

All that memory was beautiful and what made it even more beautiful was that we won with our first presentation, we had the best memory as first timers in the singing competition. That built our confidence more in sharing our music... What a beautiful time it was for me!
