I Boasted Too Much.

I was not a huge fan of politics until I gained admission into the university and things changed. Right from hundred level, I became popular and had so many friends. Have you ever seen a popular newbie? Come to my university then and you are going to find me. I guess I became very popular because of my beauty and a lot of guys came to ask me out.
I made sure that I stick to my plans and engaged in school activities. While engaging in school activities, I started having more interest in school politics. I became more interested in the affairs of the school and the welfare of students.
Some people felt it was too quick for a newbie to engage in such but some people appreciated me.

We had a lecturer named Mr Ojo and we call him the giant. We call him that because he’s so strict and may be very mean at times. He called me into his office one day and I was very nervous thinking about what he wanted to tell me.

”I have noticed and seen a few of your activities on campus and I must tell you that you’re doing really well and if you continue this way, it is possible for you to be our first female president,” I was surprised because I’ve seen him as a very mean person who does not give good compliments.

The words kept me going and I didn’t relent till I left school. When I got to my final year, I paid for the presidential form and I had one other opponent. Everyone already know that I was going to be contesting because I was quite famous in school.
My contestant was a guy named Maleek. He was popular just like me in school but one thing was different. He had money but I was more famous even though I had more achievements than him in school.
We both started our campaigns in school but fixed different days and time. I put out my manifesto and told all the students what I will do if I win the election and during the campaign, they all shouted, ”Go Bisola, go Bisola,” and my mind was at peace that I was going to win the election.

On the Election Day, I woke up very early in the morning and saw so many messages on my WhatsApp. I say messages like “congratulations my girl, I know you will be the winner so let’s go and deal with your opponent today.”
Those are the messages I got and my mind was calm that I was going to win the election. I went to the market even before going to school and I bought over a hundred gifts that I will give to people after I win the election.
I stood at the front of the podium and said;
”My people, we are winning today and we’re going to make great changes to the school. I have nothing to be scared of because today will be a day of joy for me,” I said at the front of the podium and all my fans cheered me up.

My opponent didn’t talk much and the election lasted for thirty minutes. When it was time to announce the winner, I was not scared at all because I knew I was going to win but to my surprise, I didn’t win the election. My opponent won the election and I wondered why he won the election despite the fact that I had more fans and I was more popular than him. I later found out that he won because he was richer than me and people will surely vote for the richer person.

Also, I heard from a lot of people that I boasted too much and I was too confident about winning the election even though truly, I had high tendency of winning the election.

I learned a lot from this and I felt bad because all the gifts I bought for my fans wasted but I still had to give them like that even though it wasn’t for the main purpose. That was when I learned that it is not good to count my chickens before they hatch.
I went home that day feeling bad and I cried so hard because I have been pursuing this since my first year at school all for it not to come to pass.
My friends came to greet me about the loss and I united with my opponent. At last, he gave me a huge role in his cabinet.
