Recuerdo haber conocido a Quequén allá por los años 80 cuando era todavía (y lo es aún hoy con todas las variantes que el paso del tiempo impone) el principal puerto cerealero de la costa atlática argentina.
Pero era simplemente eso, un pueblo cerealero, con muy pocos atractivos turísticos. Lugar de trabajo como decían los lugareños en quel entonces.
El tiempo y los años pasan. Recorro otros caminos. Mis deseos de viajar y mi mochila me llevan por todas partes. Conozco muchos países de Europa y al final regreso.
I remember meeting Quequén back in the 80s when it was still (and still is today, with all the variations that the passage of time imposes) the main cereal port on the Argentine athletic coast.
But it was just that, a cereal town, with very few tourist attractions. Workplace as the locals used to say back then.
Time and years go by. I travel other ways. My desire to travel and my backpack carry me everywhere. I know many countries in Europe and in the end I return.
Intentando buscar un lugar para re-establecerme en territorio argentino (y habituado a las costas de Mar Mediterráneo) comienzo a recorrero la costa atlántica.
Cual no sería mi sorpresa al descubrir la entrada de Quequén en mi viaje hacia el sur, destino Patagonia.
Tan distinta de como yo la recordaba.
Trying to find a place to re-establish myself in Argentine territory (and accustomed to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea) I begin to travel the Atlantic coast.
What would not be my surprise when discovering the entrance of Quequén in my trip to the south, destination Patagonia.
As different from how I remembered it.
La curiosidad y el deseo de ver si efectivamente había cambiado tanto me llevó a entrar. Y la sorpresa fue enorme.
Aquél pequeño pueblo que no superaba los 5.000 habitantes hoy es una pequeña y floreciente ciudad con más de 15.000 almas. Pero, sbretodo, un lugar turístico de relieve nacional.
Quien lo hubiera dicho!
Curiosity and the desire to see if it had indeed changed so much led me to enter. And the surprise was enormous.
That small town that did not exceed 5,000 inhabitants today is a small and flourishing city with more than 15,000 souls. But, above all, a tourist place of national importance.
Who could have said it!
Paraíso de los surferos.

Avanzamos un poco y nos reciben imponentes acantilados formando grutas que transportan nuestra fantasía a islas remotas.
Hasta llegar a la Bahía de los Vientos, un lugar donde la arquitectura con la que fueron diseñadas cada una de sus casas, le dan a Quequén un toque distintivo para recordar.
We advance a bit and we are greeted by impressive cliffs forming grottos that transport our fantasy to remote islands.
Until reaching the Bahía de los Vientos, a place where the architecture with which each of its houses were designed, give Quequén a distinctive touch to remember.

El 10 de junio de 1996 se hundió en el sitio de amarre Nº 11 de Puerto Quequén, quedando con una escora de 135º. En el año 1998 fue reflotado por la empresa de salvamento Raúl Negro y Compañía.
Posteriormente fue remolcado y varado en la playa de Bahía de los Vientos, al Norte de Quequén.
On June 10, 1996, it sank at mooring site No. 11 in Puerto Quequén, leaving it with a list of 135º. In 1998 it was refloated by the rescue company Raúl Negro y Compañía.
Later it was towed and beached on the beach of Bahía de los Vientos, north of Quequén.

Y para recordar también, sin lugar a dudas, su emblega: el Faro de Quequén. Subir por sus escaleras significa disfrutar de una vista majestuosa e inmensa no solo de esta ciudad, sino también de la inmensidad del Océano Atlántico.
Si queremos que nuestros recuerdos nos lleven a la Quequén antigua es suficiente visitar la Escollera, donde aún hoy cientos de pescadores todos los días pasan horas y horas desafiando las olas tratando de obtener la pieza que por su tamaño no solo los vuelva famosos sino que sean la atracción turística del año.
And to remember, without a doubt, its emblem: the Quequén Lighthouse. Climbing its stairs means enjoying a majestic and immense view not only of this city, but also of the vastness of the Atlantic Ocean.
If we want our memories to take us to the old Quequén, it is enough to visit La Escollera, where even today hundreds of fishermen spend hours and hours braving the waves every day trying to obtain the piece that, due to its size, not only makes them famous but they are the tourist attraction of the year.
