Such as are your habitual thoughts, such also will be the character of your mind; for the soul is dyed by the thoughts.

”The mind is an open field”

I believe writing once that I do not believe in coincidences. Whatever we experience now is as a result of ingrained thoughts. I strongly believe that we are a reflection of what we think inside.

We may have heard at some point in our lives that the mind is an open field. That is so true. The mind is fertile and accepts whatever is projected into it. For a man to be completely transformed or changed, he needs his mind reconstructed.

… but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…

The Bible quotes that at some point and for someone who isn’t really paying attention, they may miss the whole point.

I don’t think it would be easy to explain to just anyone how much the mind does and affects our lives. The mind is a spiritual entity and research has it that even scientists have no proper answer to what the mind really is and how it works because it is not tangible.

I quote Chris Oyakhilome from his book, The Power Of Your Mind,

The mind is the faculty of man's reasoning and thoughts. It holds the power of imagination, recognition, and appreciation, and is responsible for processing feelings and emotions, resulting in attitudes and actions.

Whatever you see with your eyes, is interpreted by the mind and I guess this is why it is said that the eyes are the windows to your soul.

What happens when this entity (of infinite intelligence as quoted by Joseph Murphy) is perturbed or deformed?

We are made by our past experiences or trauma. What one has seen happen around him is what he takes as the truth. To a young woman who grew in an abusive home, it may be difficult to get her to believe in a happy home. A man might never be able to believe in himself if he’s been ridiculed or been called less in his home.

It becomes really hard to transmit positive thoughts to the mind. That is because the thoughts he or she harbors are negative or pessimistic. Thereby forming the outlines or the layers of the thoughts in the mind which sooner or later becomes reality.

Chris Oyakhilome in one of his tapes quoted the Eye of The storm. Simply put, this means that whatever you worry or think on comes out visible. You give it life and then they develop legs. Why do you think we say, a dream come true?

I guess this is where I will also quote Joseph Murphy, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind,

As you sow in your subconscious mind, so shall you reap in your body and environment

Even Napoleon Hill speaks on this power in his book Think & Grow Rich. He iterates the necessity of a healthy mind that can believe and have faith.

Napoleon Hill - Think & Grow Rich

The subconscious mind unlike the conscious can not discern thoughts which are good or evil. The subconscious is like a pool of infinite resources (both good and evil) and it responds as it is commanded. What you see with your mind’s eye and ponder on, that is what your subconscious will respond to.

For further understanding, I will explain that the subconscious is what brings your thoughts to reality. It is the intelligence within you (an untapped source of power) that brings everything in the universe to obedience to give you that which you seek. The ideas you need, the plans and the ability to carry it out. You find all things centered on your goals, visions or dreams finding you. You become more aware of your surroundings and opportunities. I explained in a post that if you see yourself buying a yellow Bugatti in the future, sooner or later you’d see one just drive by. Like it happened to me. I saw a Bugatti!

Napoleon also writes extensively on this point. When we finally understand the criticality of possessing a healthy mind (the conscious) we would have unlocked potential 80 out of 100 percent.

A short story is I am really scared of scorpions. I can wake up from a nightmare about scorpions. I can just be asleep (day or night) and jerk awake just to see if a scorpion is close-by. It became the center of my thought. I would cross check my bed or couch before sleeping or even sitting on it. I may be watching TV and then see in my mind’s eye a scorpion crawling towards me and then look down or switch on the lights (because I prefer a dark room).

My subconscious received this message. And one day, while lying on my couch, no thought about the scorpion whatsoever, it crawled and just laid beside my forearm. It did not move or anything just stayed there. I moved to get up and saw it. Brown and poised. I had no idea what to make of the situation. Maybe my brain went into shock but then I recalled knowledge from books I read regarding this kind of experience.

The same happens within us. If you always see yourself as a loser in your conscious, your subconscious will give it to you. It doesn’t process, it just accepts and translates to reality. Which is why the Bible says…

guard your mind with all diligence for out of it comes the issues of life.

You are what you think!

What do you believe about your mind? About the subconscious? Do we really possess the ability, through thought alone, to affect and radically change our lives? Let me know in the comments.
