I want to use this medium to greet all great Hivers. How has been your day so far, hope you are all doing good? I'm positive minded that it's all well and fine.

If you are someone who wants to go into Poultry farm business, as a farmer you need some basic knowledge about the breed to rear for business. The thing is, we have different varieties of breed that can be categorize as chicken; the ones that are common here are layers chicken, broiler chicken and Cockerel chicken. They are the commonly reared chicken here but still, the three of those breeds have their time and purposes.

The difference between the three breeds and why Broiler is the most suitable for Poultry farming business.

I will love to start with layers chicken, layers chicken is a kind of chicken that is being reared for business purposes on the ground that they can lay eggs, brownish eggs to be precised. Meanwhile, it's good to note that to rear these birds to the point of laying, it will take nothing less than six months and considering the cost of production, it's a business that attract huge amount of cost of production. So it's very rare you see people venturing into the business just of the high cost of production its attracts.

Secondly, it's Cockerel chicken. This Cockerel chicken at baby want to replicate the Broiler in size and shape. This is where I want to chip in my experience, to shed more light on how they look like. That's why of you want venture into Broiler chicken business, you have to be ordering birds from a trusted hatchery farm, agent or distributor. Cockerel chicken takes time to grow like four to six months because they want to have similar growth just as local chicken. So people don't really rear Cockerel chicken for purpose. They are rear basically for home use.

Lastly, the broiler chicken is the most reared breed in Nigeria because of the purposes and advantages attached to it. First thing first, they grow at a very steady rate, between six weeks to 8 weeks they are already ready for harvest.
