More Hussle Needed

My family vacation had me thinking about the next five years which I think will be critical for me as I expect them to be my peak years of my professional career. While I will likely never formally retire into the sunset, I have increasingly been wanting to put a date with confidence to become independent of a Salary. Unfortunately, this is difficult in today’s world as the draw to the Rat Race comes from not only Corporate Life but now the economy and inflation. I can honestly say I not better off than 2-3 years ago just because my cost of living has outpaced my earnings.

While my diversification of assets and income is helping me combat this to not live paycheck to paycheck, it becomes more challenging from a lifestyle perspective. I recently had been in a position to really be able to do whatever I wanted financially without much thought in terms of source of funds or implications but that has changed. Homeownership while great brings this challenges more front and center given the demands of wanting to be comfortable where one lives; even more so now that it has also become the main place of work for me.

I have always had an ambitious mentality which was my driver towards approaching all challenges head on. It was definitely part of my formula to where I have gotten in my professional life. However, as I have increasingly learned in that setting, what gets you to one place is not what will get you to the next. I had time to reflect at different moment of my vacation: watching amazing views of cities, seeing sunsets and sunrises, or just sitting in the jacuzzi or sauna. Each time I had to acknowledge that there were projects in my life which I could be doing more about to advance further.

Whether it be a venture in technology I have been working with a group of investors for two years that is still in development or my engagement on the blockchain, I recall moments when I would spend important time and attention to get things done in those areas. It may also be that some are no longer worth the time or resources being used on them. Instead, I got focus on the potential of some Real Estate which has been a surprising piece of my portfolio over the years. The point is that I need to push myself for more of a hussle to get out of the comfort zone I have seem to find myself in.

As they say, knowing is half the battle! However, execution is often hard. I have some ideas on how to adjust but will see how it accommodates within everything going on. It will have to be soon as opportunities never fall in ones lap; we must go after them with perseverance. Maybe finding moments like those on my vacation to provide the opportunity to reflect will be what I need to invest in myself for meditation and focus. Easier said than done but I think it is worth the try!
