Ohhh the children of Africa, Where is mother Africa? Why are we lacking in computer knowledge? Where would our help come from? Who will volunteer to educate us? Or will computer illiteracy prevail and endure in our land?
While crying out loud, a brave young man, with the heart of a lion, called me and say, marajah, I want to rescue our nation. Do you know we can help them to be computer literate? marajah, we can. So, he initiated his motives and I viewed it as an achievable goal. So, I promised to render full support to this amazing project. The children of the future generation really need it. And with hive, we will be able to build the project to standard.
The initiator is no other person rather than Mr Charles Okeke a.k.a @fokusnow in hive. Together, we did some internal work by visiting some schools. Thank God, many of them accepted our proposal and to prove how ready they are, one of the schools attended their first computer training class today. They came with their proprietress and their computer teacher. The amazing part of it is the fact they are teaching this students (children) computer as a subject without practicing it.
According to those children, that day they visited the training center is their first time of touching computer, mouse, keyboard and desktop. I really felt pity for them.
So, upon their arrival, we (I and fokusnow) welcomed them, assigned them sits helped them to feel free by cracking some minor jokes with them.
Thereafter, @fokusnow introduced the importance of computer and why we should be computer literate. In his speech, he told them that for them to excel academically, financially and in all aspects of their life, they need to be computer literate. Why?, From the direction our world is heading to, it's likely that one cannot be employed if the person is not computer literate. According to him, computer illiteracy has overwhelmed our country and continent at large.
After his speech, he introduced the four parts that makes up a computer and they are as follow:
- Desktop
- mouse
- keyboard
- monitor
He also told them their importance and how they do work together. He further gave them guidelines on how to place their hands when pressing keyboard and when holding mouse. Do you know that today is their first time of touching a mouse? hehehe. There ends the theory(interactive) session.
Practical session
In this practical section, he showed them how to fix the power cables and the VGA cable. After the tutorial, he allowed the children to practice what he just taught them. Wow, they did it perfectly and we gave them round of applause.
The end
The whole thing was like paradise on earth to those children. They really enjoyed it. Right now, there are 20 desktop in the office and the children exceeds such number. But, despite that some were standing, they didn't even feel it. To show how happy they were, those ones squatting even made notes from the lecture. That's interesting, isn't it?
Surely, our hive computer office can contain above 50 desktop. Therefore, base on our goal, we are targeting to train more than 2000 students. Meaning that, we need to increase the number of computers. And with the help we will receive from this platform, we will surely succeed.
