One Weird Trick Khal Can Use To Gain Extra Revenue for `leofinance.io`

Using one weird trick, @khaleelkazi can help leofinance.io earn extra revenues from both ads & organic search traffic.

Has This Happened to You?

You're using another another dApp as your admin tool when you notice that someone replied to your January 2023 LPUD post.

You read the post in the dApp and like the comment so much you want to upvote it.

You want the commenter to be rewarded in both HIVE and LEO, so you decide to switch to the LeoFinance front-end to make the upvote.

You eagerly replace the domain and the hive-* following it with the LeoFinance domain, and you expect to see this:

Instead, what you see on screen is this:

Once you see the typo in the domain name, you wish you had the last 60 seconds of your life back (or you decide to post a thread including the #oops hashtag).

Typos: We've All Been There

No matter how careful we are as we type, especially with patterns engrained in "typing memory," sooner or later we maek the typo.

Typos happen at the location bar of the web browser. They also happen in the search field for whatever search engine you use (even Presearch).

Khal Has the Search Engines Covered...

Some typos are common enough in search that search engines account for them when they return the search engine results page (SERP):

TypoInstead of... [*]
leofinance.comleofinance.io
leofiannce.comleofinance.io
leofinacne.comleofinance.io
leofiannce.comleofinance.io
leofiancee.comleofinance.io
leothreads.comleofinance.io/threads
leothreads.ioleofinance.io/threads

[*] -- Only these typos were confirmed

Perhaps the search engines use algorithms which pick up these typos and correct for them.

Also likely is that Khal and his team of developers included those typos in the HEAD section of the web page generated by the content management system LeoFinance uses to bring us content. All the search engine optimization (SEO) we do on our content is contained in the BODY section.

Bottom line: Khal and his team got it covered for us, as much as they could.

...But What about the Location Bar?

As much as Khal and his team know, they don't know what kind of typos we make as we replace one address with another.

(In some cases, we wouldn't want them to know what goes through our minds as we make our typos; its safer for all of us that way.)

There's a good chance that all the typos in the table above cause the web browser to lead us to a browser-generated error page. That's to be expected.

And Yet--

-- How often have we made a typo in the location bar (for some other web site) and we still end up where we wanted to go? You don't have to take my word for it, but that happens.

I know, because I was able to accomplish that trick a few years ago before I discovered Hive.

One Weird Trick I Used

Details will be different depending on domain registrars and web hosting services, but here is the trick:

👉 Buy another domain, then get it to point to the desired domain 👈

The additional domain doesn't even need to be a "typo" of the correct domain. Buy a domain joe and have it point to domain deez.

In this case (for example), leofinance.com can be made to point to leofinance.io Same with a leothreads.com domain.

It's not a difficult thing to do, either, which is great for everyone here.

Does the Other Domain Need To Be Purchased?

That's a great question, and in my case I did not try that with a domain I didn't own or control.

However, if it turns out that it is not necessary to own the other domain name, then Khal can save the cash, cryptocurrency, and sats and use it to buy more BTC, HIVE, LEO, CUB, POLYCUB, or even RUNE.

Either Way...

... This is a way to make typos work in our favor and boost traffic to LeoFinance, our content, and our dApps.

"Khal already has that covered, too? Uhh, hmm..."

There is a very good chance that Khal has this covered, too; in which case, I may need to post another thread using the #oops hashtag.

Did I waste my time in composing this post? Not at all!

  • If you handle the tech or admin aspects of a web site, you may be able to benefit from this one weird trick.
  • If not, then you know how the trick works.

Just My Two Sats

We all make typos. No matter how well we type, typos still happen.

Typos we make in search engines may not matter so much because either the search engine knows how to handle the typo or the web page itself accounted for the typo when it was made.

Typos we make when changing URLs, on the other hand, are annoying because time is wasted, and wasted time adds up after a while to time lost to us forever.

What if we could make typos work in our favor so that they drive additional traffic to LeoFinance (or our own sites)?

Admin-level SEO optimization allows typos to be included in the HEAD section of a web page generated by a front-end. What we do is included in the BODY section of that page.

One weird trick involves redirecting one domain so that it points to the correct domain (in this case, leofinance.io). This is done by anyone who as admin access to a web site's control panel.

Even if Khal and his team knew of this trick, it's new for many of us.
