LeoGlossary: Threadstorm

How to get a Hive Account

A threadstorm is a thread that is followed up by a number of comments, all placed by the author to convey an idea.

This is part of LeoThreads which is microblogging on the blockchain. It is housed on the Hive network which utilizies the Proof-of-Brain (PoB) mechanism for coin and token distribution.

Users are able to post content on InLeo, thus earning the token. This is based upon the votes provides by other users. Each vote carried voting weight based upon the amount of LEO staked along with the voting power available at the time the vote was placed.

Like Twitter, LeoThreads limits the number of characters that can be placed. In this instance, it is capped at 240.

Longer Form Ideas

A threadstorm is what allows an individual to express deeper ideas that exceed the 240 character limit. Under this circumstance, multiple threads are utilized.

Instead of simply posting the idea in separate threads, they are linked by comments. For this discussion, we will call a thread the top line and then what is placed under it comments.

The author first creates a thread. This is placed on the website. Next, the thread is opened and directly commented upon. This will appear right below it. After that, the author will reply to the original thread, placing a second comment. Now we have a threadstorm with 3 parts.

This process can be repeated for as long as the individual wants. The basic structure is thread and comments below. This can go on for 50 or 100 if the person has enough to say.

Supplement To Long Form Content

Leofinance has a section dedicated to long form posts on its front end. These are articles that people write similar to Medium or Substack. It is also a feature that Elon Musk is adding to Twitter.

While a threadstorm is often an original idea, many authors choose to supplement the long form content with a threadstorm. Here the article is broken down into key pieces, with each being its own comment. The result is a threadstorm that has 5-10 parts to it.

Content creators often find this to be a beneficial way to attract newer users while also targeting a wider audience. Marketing is vital for those looking to build a brand, especially in the emerging Web 3.0 arena.

Users often hashtag their threadstorms as a way to categorize them for easy reference.

Micro-Earning

Threadstorms are part of a larger process within the Leofinance ecosystem called micro-earning.

On Hive, there is a reward pool. This has translated to the layer 2 projects where community tokenization took place. Each vote carries some weight, paying out in $LEO and HIVE based upon the stake tied to the account.

There is a 50/50 distribution (not to be confused with the 50/50 payout option. Any monetary value as a result of voting is split between authors and curators. This means that even threads are eligible for rewards.

Since they are short thoughts posted quickly, these are not monetized to the same degree as long content. There are some votes placed at smaller value, kicking off the process of micro-earning.

Many use threadstorms as a way to enhance this. Since they are posted on-chain, they are eligible for the payouts. This takes place after the 7 day voting window has expired.
