Blacklight is a film directed by Mark Williams starring the immortal Liam Neeson, who at 69 continues to star in action movies, and this is already showing. You don't see the same freshness as when Taken or Relentless Search was released back in 2008, when the actor was still 55 years old. His movements have become a bit heavy, it is noticeable in several scenes where a significant physical effort is required, but it does not detract much from the seriousness and depth that this actor can bring to a leading role as an FBI agent. In this opportunity, Neeson plays agent Travis Brock, attached to the FBI who is in charge of rescuing agents from undercover missions who have begun to lose their sanity a little and are getting too involved, to the point of putting their secret identity at risk.
I must admit I was hesitant to watch this movie because the last three Neeson movies I've seen left me very, very disappointed, and I reviewed two of them: The Marksman and The Ice Road. But just as I was afraid to see it, I saw it and surprisingly it was good... except the ending. An interesting story, well-crafted characters but the ending, that ending so bad that it felt like a rushed cut, as if they had run out of budget and hacked away at a good production. What did I think of the movie?
The film lasts only 1h44m, and fell short by several minutes to offer us a fair closing. From the beginning, I thought the movie was good, since we see how a conspiracy is born that can be revealed to the American public if Dusty and Mira can find each other to exchange information. It has good action, murders and a bit of investigation and suspense, but what is really important and that I highlight is the conspiracy; once again the FBI is involved in deplorable actions but that they justify by saying that they do good to the national order. The assassination of civilians to achieve the objectives of the American upper echelons is carried out by special agents attached to the FBI, who are licensed to shape the future of the country according to their wishes, without encountering resistance from the victims. Brock, being innocent of what is happening, tries to get Dusty back on several occasions, who manages to escape from his custody but when they are finally face to face, it is too late. The little information that the young man gives the experienced agent sows doubts in him about whether his actions and that of the rest of the agents are correct, despite the fact that they are repeatedly told that what they do, they do for a greater good.

The mental game that they show us in this film, to which federal agents are subjected is quite interesting, since despite having special and prolonged training, they are still human with feelings susceptible to getting too involved in the mission well for love, hate or interest, or just lose your mind by pretending to be a person for too long. All the moral conceptions that we know, they do not question them because they are trained to do so, but after spending so much time outside the arm of the FBI, their mind regains the ability to discern on their own what is right or wrong, and this many times it destroys the individual's psyche since, looking back, they realize that their hands are stained with innocent blood from following orders.
I love this whole conspiracy, morality, and ethics thing. And how they are spinning everything, how they are letting the viewer know little by little, keeps us intrigued and wanting to know a little more. The problem is, as I already mentioned, the ending. In my opinion, they ended the story very suddenly, and this time a little more development was needed to achieve a higher quality product. I mean, I feel that after everything that happened, it's over too easily, the good guys won and the bad guys lost with amazing ease, why screw up? Very sad, bro. They were able to make a film of about 7 points, but the ending is far from it, they themselves put the noose around their necks.

Final comments
The performances were good, but I want to highlight the absolute beauty of the Thai model who plays Sofía Flores, Melanie Jarnson, so only 24 years old. Perhaps we can believe that she is an irrelevant character, but she is the one who starts the whole conspiracy plot because of her murder and the romantic relationship she had with Dusty, which transcended her work as an undercover agent and came to truly love her. On the other hand, Liam Neeson acts as in all the films of this nature that he has made, with a very serious and more than acceptable job. I think Liam exists for action thriller movies, and action thriller movies exist for him. It is not that he is the best actor in the genre, but he does an exceptional job in all his roles.
An entertaining movie, to watch in a spare time but with the knowledge that the ending will be disappointing; the rest of the movie is worth watching. Finally, after the movie disasters in which Neeson was involved, he participated in something of quality and true to his essence. Without further comment on the matter, I recommend that you watch it at your own discretion, do not be carried away by comments that the film is very good or very bad, since we all have different points of view and different ways of appreciating things. Maybe they agree with me, maybe they love the movie, who knows.

No se le ve la misma frescura que cuando se estrenó Taken o Búsqueda Implacable por allá en el 2008, cuando el actor aún tenía 55 años. Sus movimientos se han hecho un poco pesados, se nota en varias escenas donde se requiere un esfuerzo físico importante, pero no le resta mucho a la seriedad y profundidad que le puede aportar este actor a un papel protagónico como agente del FBI. En esta oportunidad, Neeson interpreta al agente Travis Brock, adjunto al FBI que se encarga de rescatar de misiones encubiertas a agentes que han empezado a perder un poco su sanidad mental y se están involucrando demasiado, al punto de poner en riesgo su identidad secreta.
Debo admitir que dudé en ver esta película porque las tres últimas que vi de Neeson me dejaron muy, pero muy decepcionado, y reseñé dos de ellas: The Marksman y The Ice Road. Pero así como tuve miedo en verla, la vi y sorpresivamente fue buena... menos el final. Una historia interesante, personajes bien trabajados pero el final, eeese final tan malo que se sintió como un corte apurado, como si se les hubiese acabado el presupuesto y cortaron de un hachazo una buena producción. Brock, agente del FBI encargado de "salvar almas", es un profesional y el mejor en lo que hace: rescatar a agentes del FBI encubiertos en misiones donde se han comprometido de más o se han descarriado del objetivo, siendo afectados negativamente en su psiquis por el esfuerzo que supone ser otra persona, tanto que a veces pueden perder la noción de quiénes son realmente y eso es contraproducente para la misión. En esas situaciones, el Director General del Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Gabriel Robinson, designa especialmente al agente Brock para intervenir y recuperar al agente y que pueda ser tratado como se debe para recuperarse psicológicamente del estrés al que fue sometido.
Travis es padre y abuelo, y a pesar de haber dedicado su vida al trabajo y descuidar su matrimonio y a su hija, quiere enmendar las cosas y estar presente en el crecimiento de su nieta, integrándose lo máximo posible en la vida de la niña que tanto ama, aunque eso le trae efectos negativos en su trabajo, ya que representa una distracción. Brock padece el Trastorno Obsesivo Compulsivo, lo cual lo hace ser extremadamente ordenado, obsesivo con su seguridad y la de sus familiares y eso afecta la relación con su nieta, ya que inculca en ella la paranoia, como dice su hija, de siempre estar atenta de su entorno, ver si alguien la sigue, si algo raro sucede o si algo o alguien las puede poner en peligro, y es una niña de no más de 8 años.

¿Qué me pareció la película?
La película dura solo 1h44m, y se quedó corta por varios minutos para ofrecernos un cierre justo. Desde que inició, la película me pareció buena, ya que vemos cómo nace una conspiración que puede ser desvelada al público estadounidense si se logran encontrar Dusty y Mira para intercambiar información. Tiene buena acción, asesinatos y un poco de investigación y suspenso, pero lo realmente importante y que destaco es lo de la conspiración; de nuevo el FBI se ve involucrado en acciones deplorables pero que ellos justifican diciendo que hacen un bien al orden nacional. El asesinato de civiles para lograr los objetivos de las altas esferas norteamericanas va por cuenta de agentes especiales adjuntos al FBI, quienes tienen licencia para ir moldeando el futuro del país a sus deseos, sin encontrar resistencia por parte de las víctimas. Brock, estando inocente de lo que sucede, trata de recuperar en varias ocasiones a Dusty, quien se logra escapar de su custodia pero cuando al fin están cara a cara, es muy tarde. La poca información que el joven le otorga al experimentado agente siembra dudas en él, sobre si su actuación y la del resto de los agentes son correctas, a pesar de que en repetidas ocasiones les dicen que lo que hacen, lo hacen por un bien mayor.

El juego mental que nos muestran en esta película, al que son sometidos los agentes federales es bastante interesante, ya que a pesar de tener un entrenamiento especial y prolongado, siguen siendo humanos con sentimientos susceptibles a involucrarse demasiado en la misión bien por amor, odio o interés, o simplemente perder la cabeza por fingir ser una persona por mucho tiempo. Todas las concepciones morales que conocemos, ellos no las cuestionan porque son entrenados para ello, pero al estar tanto tiempo fuera del brazo del FBI, su mente vuelve recobra la capacidad de discernir por cuenta propia lo que está bien o mal, y esto muchas veces destruye la psiquis del individuo ya que al hacer retrospectiva, se dan cuenta que tienen las manos manchadas de sangre inocente por seguir órdenes.
Todo este asunto de las conspiraciones, moralidad y ética me encantan. Y cómo van hilando todo, cómo lo van haciendo saber al espectador poco a poco nos mantiene intrigados y con ganas de saber un poquito más. El problema es, como ya mencioné, el final. A mi parecer, muy de golpe acabaron con la historia, y esta vez sí se necesitaba un poco más de desarrollo para lograr un producto de mayor calidad. O sea, siento que después de todo lo que sucedió, se acabó como muy fácil, ganaron los buenos y perdieron los malos con pasmosa facilidad, ¿por qué la cagan? Muy sad, bro. Pudieron hacer una película de unos 7 puntos, pero el final le resta muchísimo, ellos mismos se pusieron la soga al cuello.

Las actuaciones estuvieron bien, pero quiero resaltar la absoluta belleza de la modelo tailandesa que interpreta a Sofía Flores, Melanie Jarnson, de tan solo 24 años de edad. Quizás podamos creer que es un personaje irrelevante, pero ella es quien empieza toda la trama de conspiración a causa de su asesinato y la relación sentimental que mantenía con Dusty, que trascendió su trabajo como agente encubierto y llegó a amarla de verdad. Por otra parte, Liam Neeson actúa como en todas las películas de esta índole que ha realizado, con un trabajo bastante serio y más que aceptable. Creo que Liam existe para las películas de acción y suspenso, y las películas de acción y suspenso existen para él. No es que sea el mejor actor del género, pero hace un trabajo excepcional en todos sus papeles.
Una película entretenida, para verla en un rato libre pero con el conocimiento de que el final será decepcionante; el resto de la película si vale la pena verlo. Por fin, después de los desastres de películas en los que se vio envuelto Neeson, participó en algo de calidad y fiel a su escencia. Sin más comentarios al respecto, les recomiendo que la vean bajo su propia discreción, no se dejen llevar por comentarios de que la película es muy buena o muy mala, ya que todos tenemos distintos puntos de vista y maneras diferentes de apreciar las cosas. Quizás concuerden conmigo, quizás amen la película, quién sabe.
