Two years after its excellent third season, Ozark returns. This time to say goodbye to us, the loyal viewers who have been hooked since its first season. Everything has an ending, and it's the perfect time, with no need to drag out the story any longer than necessary. The fourth and final season is divided into two parts of seven episodes each, this is the beginning of the end.
This post is my take on the first part of the final season, so there are some spoilers.

Todo tiene un final, y es el momento perfecto, sin necesidad de alargar la historia más de lo necesario. Time flies by, I was told in a comment on my previous post, where I talked about the end of Dexter and Ray Donovan. How right that comment is. I watched Ozark when it premiered, exactly the same amount of time I have on the platform. Quite a while ago and how many things have changed.
I remember the early reviews from the specialists were good, but the ratings were low. The first season seems not to have won over most viewers. I was fascinated from the beginning, but I was afraid that the series would be cancelled and the story would be half finished.
For me it has been a great surprise to check twitter a few days ago, when this first part of the fourth season premiered, and see how Ozark and the names of some characters were trending. The series has managed to make itself known and increase its number of followers. Influenced by the fact that its third season was amazing and some awards won by several of its actors, totally deserved.
I already said it two years ago, in my brief post about the third season. Ozark is a series that went from less to more. Not only does each season surpass the previous one, but each episode increases the tension, stretches the string to the maximum, until the moment when it will burst. With moments of calm, but you can feel the pressure on each of the characters. This is one of the wonderful aspects of the series, keeping that feeling that at any moment something explosive can happen, even though everything seems to be calm.
Something that bothered me were the comparisons that were made with Breaking Bad, when their stories are very opposite, they only have in common drug trafficking. I think we are already at a point where the series has proven to have a personality of its own. I know that some will continue to compare it, especially because several media outlets, who only want people to click on their news, insist on making headlines comparing both series.

El tiempo pasa volando, me decían en un comentario de mi anterior post, donde hablaba del final de Dexter y Ray Donovan. Qué razón tiene ese comentario. Vi Ozark cuando se estrenó, exactamente el mismo tiempo que tengo en la plataforma. Hace bastante tiempo y cuántas cosas han cambiado.
Recuerdo que las primeras críticas de los especialistas eran buenas, pero la audiencia era baja. La primera temporada parece no haber conquistado a la mayoría de los espectadores. A mí me fascinó desde el principio, pero temía que la serie se cancelara y la historia se quedara a medias.
Para mí ha sido una gran sorpresa consultar twitter hace unos días, cuando se estrenó esta primera parte de la cuarta temporada, y ver cómo Ozark y los nombres de algunos personajes eran tendencia. La serie ha conseguido darse a conocer y aumentar su número de seguidores. Influido por el hecho de que su tercera temporada fue increíble y algunos premios que han ganado varios de sus actores, totalmente merecidos.
Ya lo dije hace dos años, en mi breve post sobre la tercera temporada. Ozark es una serie que fue de menos a más. No sólo cada temporada supera a la anterior, es que cada episodio aumenta la tensión, estira la cuerda al máximo, hasta que se acerca el momento en que va a reventar. Con momentos de calma, pero se siente la presión sobre cada uno de los personajes. Este es uno de los aspectos maravillosos de la serie, mantener esa sensación de que en cualquier momento puede ocurrir algo explosivo, aunque todo parezca estar en calma.
Algo que me molestó fueron las comparaciones que se hicieron con Breaking Bad, cuando sus historias son muy opuestas, sólo tienen en común el tráfico de drogas. Creo que ya estamos en un punto en el que la serie ha demostrado tener personalidad propia. Sé que algunos seguirán comparándola, sobre todo porque varios medios de comunicación, que sólo quieren que la gente pinche en sus noticias, insisten en sacar titulares comparando ambas series.
What is this first part about?
After an opening scene that I'll talk about in the next paragraph, we pick up exactly where season three ended, Marty and Wendy Bryde coming out of shock and cleaning Helen Pierce's blood that covers their face and hair. Their boss, Omar Navarro, leader of the drug cartel explains to them what he really wants and what they will have to do to get it. Meanwhile, Ruth partners with Darlene to keep producing drugs, no matter what the cartel says. Ruth is hurt with Marty and Wendy, Ben's death was something that crossed the line. But she's not the only one angry about Ben's death. Jonah, the Bryrde's youngest son is also angry, which will create a serious family and business conflict. The Byrde's will continue to expand the business, but they will be presented with two problems. A private detective, an ex-cop, is looking for Helen and Omar Navarro's nephew and future heir to the cartel arrives in Ozark to complicate everything. Deaths and betrayals accumulate, to leave all the pieces at a point of no return, waiting for the final second part to be more explosive.
The beginning of the end
I think that's what the first episode of this fourth season is titled, and it's a bit blunt, after seeing the opening sequence, which aired in one of the previews a few months ago. I'm cautious with that sequence, it's really shocking. Everything points to it being a FlashForward and if that's the case, fate has decided to take all the bills to the Byrde. But I tell you I'm cautious because it could also be a dream. There is that possibility. It's almost impossible for anyone to come out of what happens in that sequence unscathed, but let's remember that it's a fictional story. We'll get the answer in the second part of the season. Yes, the creators are playing with us, but I love this game that makes me hope for a miracle or worse for the characters.
¿De qué trata esta primera parte?
Tras una escena inicial de la que hablaré en el siguiente párrafo, nos situamos exactamente en el momento en el que terminó la tercera temporada, Marty y Wendy Bryde saliendo del shock y limpiando la sangre de Helen Pierce que les cubre la cara y cabello. Su jefe, Omar Navarro, líder del cártel de la droga les explica lo que realmente quiere y lo que tendrán que hacer para conseguirlo. Mientras tanto, Ruth se asocia con Darlene para seguir produciendo droga, sin importar lo que diga el cártel. Ruth está dolida con Marty y Wendy, la muerte de Ben fue algo que se pasó de la raya. Pero no es la única enfadada por la muerte de Ben. Jonah, el hijo menor de los Bryrde también está enfadado, lo que creará un grave conflicto familiar y empresarial. Los Byrde seguirán ampliando el negocio, pero se les presentarán dos problemas. Un detective privado, ex policía, busca a Helen y el sobrino de Omar Navarro y futuro heredero del cártel llega a Ozark para complicarlo todo. Las muertes y las traiciones se acumulan, para dejar todas las piezas en un punto de no retorno, a la espera de que la segunda parte final sea más explosiva.
El principio del fin
Creo que así se titula el primer episodio de esta cuarta temporada, y es algo contundente, después de ver la secuencia inicial, que se emitió en uno de los avances hace unos meses. Soy cauto con esa secuencia, es realmente impactante. Todo apunta a que es un FlashForward y si es así, el destino ha decidido cobrarle todas las facturas a los Byrde. Pero te digo que soy cauto porque también podría ser un sueño. Existe esa posibilidad. Es casi imposible que alguien salga indemne de lo que ocurre en esa secuencia, pero recordemos que es una historia de ficción. La respuesta la tendremos en el segundo parte de la temporada. Sí, los creadores están jugando con nosotros, pero me encanta este juego que me hace esperar un milagro o lo peor para los personajes.
The development of the characters in Ozark is, from my point of view, the most attractive of the series. Only the character of Marty, played by Jason Bateman is the one character that I notice has remained the same since the beginning of the series. He is a smart and sneaky accountant who will always find a way out of trouble. Although he is a man who loves his family, at the same time I can distinguish a certain degree of psychopathy in the character. Because you have to be cold-blooded to do what he does, besides, I feel that he is not so affected by deaths or what happens to people other than his family members, Although we may believe that he really cares about Ruth, it is a lie and she, who was faithful to him, has realized it. Marty Bryde is a shark for business, he could easily work on Wall Street, hahaha.
Ruth Langmore is my favorite character, hands down. The character development throughout the series has been gigantic. I already said it when I reviewed season 3, actress Julia Garner deserves all the praise she gets and hopefully she gets more awards. She has already won the Emmy award twice for this series. The character of Ruth was a young woman whose future seemed to be that of a delinquent in that town, she came from a dysfunctional family, she even killed her own uncle to be loyal to Marty. As she says in one of the scenes this season, she has the smarts to do great things, but she doesn't seem to have the smarts to get out of that town.
I wish a happy ending for this character, I think she deserves it. The last episode of this first part leaves her full of anger and hurt by a terrible event, now she just wants to quench her thirst for revenge, her future is uncertain and anything can happen. I feel there are many fans of the character. That's why I hope the screenwriters are not so cruel and give her a future outside of Ozark. The actress has been involved in new quality projects, whom I first saw in the series The Americans, is a star of American television today.
Wendy Byrde is the other female character of importance in the series, already in the third season the character achieved an evolution towards the dark side that remains. She already crossed the line of what is allowed. What she did was a horrible act and she will suffer the consequences of that act. In fact, she and Marty make a perfect couple, both are psychopaths. Although she, perhaps because she is a woman, is somewhat affected by many things, when it is her turn to be a tough person, she does not hesitate to do the unimaginable. A great performance by Laura Linney who also deserves a lot of praise.
In this season the character of Jonah Byrde has become more important. Who started the series as a child, is now a teenager taller than all the other characters hahaha . Just as the actor Skylar Gaertner has grown, his character has also evolved. Smart like his father to launder money from crime, but he is not a psychopath and is grieving the death of his uncle Ben. Hence his confrontation with his parents, who act cold-bloodedly, creating an atmosphere of hostility and leading him down a path where he will confront his mother.
Charlotte, Darlen, Wyatt, other characters each with their important role within the series and definitely the fate of two of those characters I did not expect. The writers have surprised me.
El desarrollo de los personajes en Ozark es, desde mi punto de vista, lo más atractivo de la serie. Sólo el personaje de Marty, interpretado por Jason Bateman es el que noto que permanece igual desde el principio de la serie. Es un contable inteligente y escurridizo que siempre encontrará la manera de salir de los problemas. Aunque es un hombre que ama a su familia, al mismo tiempo puedo distinguir cierto grado de psicopatía en el personaje. Porque hay que tener sangre fría para hacer lo que él hace, además, siento que no le afectan tanto las muertes o lo que le ocurre a otras personas que no sean sus familiares, Aunque podamos creer que realmente se preocupa por Ruth, es mentira y ella, que le era fiel, se ha dado cuenta. Marty Bryde es un tiburón para los negocios, podría trabajar fácilmente en Wall Street, jajaja.
Ruth Langmore es mi personaje favorito, sin duda. El desarrollo del personaje a lo largo de la serie ha sido gigantesco. Ya lo dije cuando hice la crítica de la tercera temporada, la actriz Julia Garner se merece todos los elogios que le den y ojalá le den más premios. Ya ha ganado dos veces el premio Emmy por esta serie. El personaje de Ruth era una joven cuyo futuro parecía ser el de una delincuente en ese pueblo, venía de una familia disfuncional, incluso mató a su propio tío para ser leal a Marty. Como ella dice en una de las escenas de esta temporada, tiene la inteligencia para hacer grandes cosas, pero no parece tener la inteligencia para salir de ese pueblo.
Deseo un final feliz para este personaje, creo que se lo merece. El último episodio de esta primera parte la deja llena de ira y herida por un hecho terrible, ahora solo quiere saciar su sed de venganza, su futuro es incierto y cualquier cosa puede pasar. Siento que hay muchos fans del personaje. Por eso espero que los guionistas no sean tan crueles y le den un futuro fuera de Ozark. La actriz se ha involucrado en nuevos proyectos de calidad, a la que vi por primera vez en la serie The Americans, es una estrella de la televisión americana actual.
Wendy Byrde es el otro personaje femenino de importancia en la serie, ya en la tercera temporada el personaje logró una evolución hacia el lado oscuro que permanece. Ella ya cruzó la línea de lo permitido. Lo que hizo fue un acto horrible y sufrirá las consecuencias de ese acto. De hecho, ella y Marty hacen una pareja perfecta, ambos son psicópatas. Aunque ella, quizás por ser mujer, se ve algo afectada por muchas cosas, cuando le toca ser una persona dura, no duda en hacer lo inimaginable. Una gran interpretación de Laura Linney que también merece muchos elogios.
En esta temporada ha cobrado más importancia el personaje de Jonah Byrde. Quien empezó la serie siendo un niño, ahora es un adolescente más alto que todos los demás personajes jajaja . Al igual que el actor Skylar Gaertner ha crecido, su personaje también ha evolucionado. Inteligente como su padre para blanquear dinero del crimen, pero no es un psicópata y está de duelo por la muerte de su tío Ben. De ahí su enfrentamiento con sus padres, que actúan con sangre fría, creando un ambiente de hostilidad y llevándole por un camino en el que se enfrentará a su madre.
Charlotte, Darlen, Wyatt, otros personajes cada uno con su papel importante dentro de la serie y definitivamente el destino de dos de esos personajes no me lo esperaba. Los guionistas me han sorprendido.
Rebelde
I think the series has achieved a lot of popularity in this last season, because Mexican actor Alfonso Herrera is part of the villains of the series, playing Javi Elizondro, the nephew of Omar Navarro, head of the cartel. The actor is known throughout Latin America because he was part of the group RBD in 2004, which was a sensation in many Spanish-speaking countries, both for the youth series and for its songs. This season he will be the rock in the Byrde's shoe, a violent and ruthless character, of whom we must be very careful. The actor plays him very well, he has the typical elements of this type of drug dealer characters, there is nothing new, but he is convincing in his character.

Creo que la serie ha logrado mucha popularidad en esta última temporada, porque el actor mexicano Alfonso Herrera forma parte de los villanos de la serie, interpretando a Javi Elizondro, el sobrino de Omar Navarro, jefe del cártel. El actor es conocido en toda Latinoamérica porque formó parte del grupo RBD en 2004, que fue una sensación en muchos países de habla hispana, tanto por la serie juvenil como por sus canciones. Esta temporada será la piedra en el zapato de los Byrde, un personaje violento y despiadado, del cual se debe tener mucho cuidado. El actor lo interpreta muy bien, tiene los elementos típicos de este tipo de personajes de narcotraficantes, no hay nada nuevo, pero es convincente en su personaje.
Hopeless
The characters seem to be doomed, these seven episodes have done nothing but put them in a moment of maximum tension, where it is difficult to predict what is going to happen, especially with that shocking opening scene that leaves us with many questions. Will it be real? Will they manage to get out immune? Will the FBI leave them alone? How will they get rid of the Cartel? What will happen to Ruth? Will they survive? Hopes seem to be slim. I wouldn't be angry if the forces of fate take it upon themselves to dispense justice, in reality the Byrde's are not good people, even if they appear to be, deep down they have a dark passenger and they doomed their lives the moment they signed the pact with the drug trafficking demon.
I just want Ruth's character to achieve a victory in her sad life. She is the only character I care about and it would pain me if they decided she must die. She's suffered enough, yes, she's a criminal, but she had no choice, instead the Byrde's had a chance to decide which way to go. Ruth driving her van with Ben's ashes and a suitcase full of money, looking for a better future, starting from scratch somewhere else, would be the perfect ending for me.
When will the second part of episodes arrive?
Netflix has not announced a date, but it is known that it will be later this year. We have to stay tuned, for sure in a month and a half they will release a trailer for the second part. I think that, by April or May, we will be able to enjoy the definitive closure of Ozark.
Sin esperanza
Los personajes parecen estar condenados, estos siete episodios no han hecho más que ponerlos en un momento de máxima tensión, donde es difícil predecir lo que va a pasar, sobre todo con esa estremecedora escena inicial que nos deja con muchas preguntas. ¿Será real? ¿Conseguirán salir inmunes? ¿Los dejará en paz el FBI? ¿Cómo se desharán del Cártel? ¿Qué pasará con Ruth? ¿Sobrevivirán? Las esperanzas parecen ser escasas. No me enfadaría si las fuerzas del destino se encargan de impartir justicia, en realidad los Byrde no son buenas personas, aunque lo parezcan, en el fondo tienen un pasajero oscuro y condenaron sus vidas en el momento que firmaron el pacto con el demonio del narcotráfico.
Sólo quiero que el personaje de Ruth logre una victoria en su triste vida. Es el único personaje que me importa y me dolería que decidieran que debe morir. Ya ha sufrido bastante, sí, es una delincuente, pero no tuvo elección, en cambio los Byrde tuvieron la oportunidad de decidir qué camino tomar. Ruth conduciendo su furgoneta con las cenizas de Ben y una maleta llena de dinero, buscando un futuro mejor, empezando de cero en otro lugar, sería el final perfecto para mí.
¿Cuándo llegará la segunda parte de episodios?
Netflix no ha anunciado una fecha, pero se sabe que será a finales de este año. Hay que estar atentos, seguro que en mes y medio sacan un tráiler de la segunda parte. Yo creo que, para abril o mayo, podremos disfrutar del cierre definitivo de Ozark.
Ozark is a series that began to gain followers progressively, the story of the Byrde family, who must be in charge of laundering the money of the cartels is one of the best American series currently on the air. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend it. If you abandoned it in past seasons, it's time to pick it up again and catch up.

Ozark es una serie que empezó a ganar adeptos progresivamente, la historia de la familia Byrde, que debe encargarse de blanquear el dinero de los cárteles es una de las mejores series americanas que se emiten actualmente. Si aún no la has visto, te la recomiendo. Si la abandonaste en temporadas pasadas, es hora de retomarla y ponerse al día.
