He had been satisfied with his last work Baby Driver, a successful approach to criminal cinema, with touches of black humor and an excellent soundtrack.
In Last Night in Soho the filmmaker has managed to fascinate me for most of the film, with less black humor compared to his previous productions, he brings us a ghost story, which at the same time is a love letter to London in the sixties.

Había quedado satisfecho con su último trabajo Baby Driver, una frenética película del genero criminal, con toques de humor negro y una excelente banda sonora.
En Last Night in Soho el cineasta ha conseguido fascinarme durante la mayor parte de la película, con menos humor negro en comparación con sus anteriores producciones, nos trae una historia de fantasmas, que a la vez es una carta de amor al Londres de los años sesenta.
Antes que leas mi sinopsis de la película, debo añadir que también tenía ganas de verla , porque fue la última actuación de la actriz Diana Rigg, fallecida el pasado año. Sé que el nombre no significa nada para la mayoría de ustedes, pero para que sepan de quién hablo, se trata de la exitosa actriz que los espectadores más jóvenes conocen por su interpretación de Oleanna Tyrell en la serie Juego de Tronos. Los productores de la película le rinden homenaje, dedicando la película en su memoria, muy merecida, pues se despidió con un papel muy importante en esta película .
What is the plot of Last Night in Soho?
Eloise is a young girl who dreams of becoming a fashion designer, a goal she has in mind, not only to fulfill what she desires, but also to honor her mother, who committed suicide a few years ago and whom she sees ( yes, her mother's ghost) . The girl seems to be a little crazy about it, and her grandmother knows it. One day the letter arrives announcing that she has been accepted and awarded a scholarship to a prestigious design school in London. Eloise sets off for London, a city that fascinates her and that she visited as a child with her mother. After a couple of bad nights with an envious, silly girl as a roommate, she decides to rent a room in a house in the Soho area. The landlady is Mrs. Collins, who gives her a set of rules to follow. The young woman is delighted with her room, where she listens to music from the sixties, with vinyl records left to her by her mother. Soon, dreams, reality and fantasy will mix to transport Eloise every night to London's Soho in the 60's, where she will live the experiences of a beautiful young woman named Sandie, who seeks to become a famous singer. Eloise es una joven que sueña con convertirse en diseñadora de moda, una meta que tiene en mente, no sólo para cumplir lo que desea, sino también para honrar a su madre, que se suicidó hace unos años y a la que ve ( si, el fantasma de su madre) . La chica parece estar un poco loca por ello, y su abuela lo sabe. Un día llega la carta en la que se le anuncia que ha sido aceptada y becada en una prestigiosa escuela de diseño de Londres. Eloise pone rumbo a Londres, una ciudad que le fascina y que visitó de niña con su madre. Tras un par de malas noches teniendo como compañero de piso a una chica tonta envidiosa, decide alquilar una habitación en una casa situada en la zona del Soho. La casera es la señora Collins, que le indica una serie de normas que debe seguir. La joven está encantada con su habitación, donde escucha música de los años sesenta, con discos de vinilo que le ha dejado su madre. Pronto, los sueños, la realidad y la fantasía se mezclarán para transportar a Eloise cada noche al Soho londinense de los años 60, donde vivirá las experiencias de una bella joven llamada Sandie, que busca convertirse en una cantante famosa. My opinion
The first scene of the film, with the dance and the music that Eloise listens to mark the visual style that the filmmaker gives to the film, something very important, because it makes the viewer identify quickly with the young protagonist of the story, with her mental problems, which she has, the girl is not quite normal, seeing dead people is not something common, in my case I only see it in the movies hahahaha.
You can tell that Edgar Wright and Krysty Wilson-Cairns are fans of the sixties and seventies , because they have written this film that is classified in the genres of drama and horror , but that works as a tribute to an era that many of us only know through the reference that our parents told us.
During each journey into the past that Eloise takes, the filmmaker will dazzle us with the depiction of the old streets, the costumes and the striking colors, which will keep our eyes admiring every detail and above all the beauty of Sandie, who is played by Anya Taylor-Joy, taking over every sequence in which she appears, outshining her male counterpart, who is an excellent British actor.
The film's soundtrack is also a marvel. My God, what a delight to listen to the great classics that marked an era. I dare say it is the best sountrack of the year, there is not a single song that goes overboard. This was another of the film's great achievements, keeping me spellbound, feeling like I was walking with Eloise and Sandie through that Soho of neon lights, where lust and danger went hand in hand. La primera escena de la película, con el baile y la música que escucha Eloise marcan el estilo visual que el cineasta le da a la película, algo muy importante, porque hace que el espectador se identifique rápidamente con la joven protagonista de la historia, con sus problemas mentales, que los tiene, la chica no es del todo normal, ver muertos no es algo común, en mi caso solo lo veo en las películas jajajaja.
Se nota que Edgar Wright y Krysty Wilson-Cairns son fans de los años sesenta y setenta , porque han escrito esta película que se clasifica en los géneros de drama y terror , pero que funciona como un homenaje a una época que muchos de nosotros sólo conocemos a través de la referencia que nos contaron nuestros padres.
Durante cada viaje al pasado que realiza Eloise, el cineasta nos deslumbrará con la representación de las calles antiguas, el vestuario y los colores llamativos, que mantendrán nuestros ojos admirando cada detalle y sobre todo la belleza de Sandie, que es interpretada por Anya Taylor-Joy, adueñándose de cada secuencia en la que aparece, eclipsando a su homólogo masculino, que es un excelente actor británico.
La banda sonora de la película también es una maravilla. Dios mío, qué delicia escuchar los grandes clásicos que marcaron una época. Me atrevo a decir que es el mejor sountrack del año, no hay una sola canción que sobre. Este fue otro de los grandes logros de la película, mantenerme embelesado, sintiendo que caminaba con Eloise y Sandie por ese Soho de luces de neón, donde la lujuria y el peligro iban de la mano. What did I think, is it good, is it bad, did it meet my expectations? This is going to be a little difficult to explain. The movie lived up to my expectations, I was fascinated by the ghost story it presented to me, never mind that some scenes and situations within the story can be said to be predictable (e.g. the death and identity of a character), but it's the way the filmmaker tells it that makes the story engaging.
All the fascination with what I was watching, takes a sharp turn in the resolution of the story. It was what didn't end up convincing me. After the director shows me the universe in which he is going to handle his film, there are details in those last minutes of the film, which break the beautiful tableware we were admiring.
It's not that I disagree with the ending, it's just that after being dazzled by the visual feast that the story offers us, it ends up concluding in an unoriginal way that even takes a little bit of the sense away from the visions with trips to the past that Eloise experiences. I know that may be a little hard to understand, but you have to see the movie for my one complaint against the film to make sense. I'd have to do a big spoiler and that's not my style, I want you to see the movie and I'm not going to be so reckless as to blurt out anything major about the plot.
Wright mesmerized me for most of the movie, but he slips at the end. I can think of many ways to solve the mystery presented to us, leaving the characters as the director intended.
I want you to see the film, disregard what I said about not liking the ending, I think many will be satisfied. But I think that's what was wanted in the story, that Eloise's reality is mixed with dreams or visions of the past, which may suffer some variants, product of Eloise's own imagination.
Qué me ha parecido, ¿es buena, es mala, ha cumplido mis expectativas? Esto va a ser un poco difícil de explicar. La película estuvo a la altura de mis expectativas, me fascinó la historia de fantasmas que me presentó, no importa que algunas escenas y situaciones dentro de la historia se pueda decir que son predecibles (por ejemplo, la muerte e identidad de un personaje), pero es la forma en que el cineasta la cuenta lo que hace que la historia sea atractiva..
Toda la fascinación por lo que estaba viendo, da un giro brusco en la resolución de la historia. Fue lo que no terminó de convencerme. Después de que el director me muestre el universo en el que va a manejar su película, hay detalles en esos últimos minutos de la película, que rompen la hermosa vajilla que estábamos admirando.
No es que esté en desacuerdo con el final, es que después de estar deslumbrados por el festín visual que nos ofrece la historia, termina concluyendo de una manera poco original que incluso le quita un poco el sentido a las visiones con viajes al pasado que experimenta Eloise. Sé que puede ser un poco difícil de entender, pero hay que ver la película para que tenga sentido mi única queja contra la película. Tendría que hacer un gran spoiler y ese no es mi estilo, quiero que veas la película y no voy a ser tan imprudente como para soltar algo importante sobre la trama.
Wright me hipnotizó durante la mayor parte de la película, pero resbala al final. Se me ocurren muchas formas de resolver el misterio que se nos presenta, dejando a los personajes como el director pretendía.
Quiero que veas la película, no hagas caso a lo que he dicho de que no me gusta el final, creo que muchos quedarán satisfechos. Pero creo que eso es lo que se quería en la historia, que la realidad de Eloise se mezcle con sueños o visiones del pasado, que pueden sufrir algunas variantes, producto de la propia imaginación de Eloise.

It is also a journey of initiation and loss of innocence, the girl who comes from a place far from the city, must learn to defend herself from the dangers that lurk in the concrete jungle, and her change, both physically and mentally, will be very radical. It is here that the insecurities of which she is a prisoner will alter the visions, making her see something that may not have happened as she saw it. That is why this possibly adulterated vision occurs the night she would give herself to carnal pleasures, to the disgrace of her lover, John, who will have to stay with the desire and flee, frightened by the disturbing situation.
Fantasy and reality, dreams and altered facts, converge in the same place, that house in Soho, which hides many secrets and unsolved mysteries. Will Eloise manage to emerge victorious from the dream turned nightmare, or will she die so that her bones rest next to those of other ghosts whose souls desperately ask for help to reach peace.
Perhaps its ending will leave you a little unsatisfied, as it did me, but the overall development of the story is impossible not to be fascinated by it.
Por ello, resulta difícil resolver este misterio que por un momento parece estar volviéndola loca, pero las pistas están ahí, frente a sus ojos, sólo que ella misma está llevando la historia de la enigmática Sandie hacia donde quiere, por lo que se equivoca al señalar al posible culpable, su propia mente le juega una mala pasada y no presta más atención a los fantasmas que pasan por el Soho.
¿He visto a alguien en esa habitación? le pregunta incrédula Eloise a la casera, que le responde: Esto es Londres querida, alguien ha muerto en cada habitación, en cada edificio, casa e incluso en cada esquina y calle de la ciudad. Jajaja me encantó esa escena, porque el director mantiene pequeños toques de su humor, aunque esta vez, en menor medida que otras producciones. También la interacción de Eloise con esas pirañas que tiene como compañeras de estudio, ofrece situaciones divertidas, pero no es una comedia.
Tampoco es una película que cause terror en el espectador, la protagonista transmitirá angustia, locura y sufrimiento. Ver fantasmas tendrá consecuencias que la afectarán mentalmente, pero también se obsesionará tanto con sus visiones que decide encontrar al culpable del crimen que aparentemente ocurrió dentro de la habitación que alquiló.
Es también un viaje de iniciación y pérdida de la inocencia, la chica que viene de un lugar alejado de la ciudad, deberá aprender a defenderse de los peligros que acechan en la jungla de cemento, y su cambio, tanto físico como mental, será muy radical. Es aquí donde las inseguridades de las que es prisionera alterarán las visiones, haciéndole ver algo que puede no haber sucedido como ella lo vio. Es por ello que esta visión posiblemente adulterada ocurre la noche en que ella se entregaría a los placeres carnales, para desgracia de su enamorado, John, que tendrá que quedarse con las ganas y huir, asustado por la inquietante situación.
Fantasía y realidad, sueños y hechos alterados, confluyen en un mismo lugar, esa casa del Soho, que esconde muchos secretos y misterios sin resolver. Conseguirá Eloise salir victoriosa del sueño convertido en pesadilla, o morirá para que sus huesos descansen junto a los de otros fantasmas cuyas almas piden desesperadamente ayuda para alcanzar la paz.
Quizás su final te deje un poco insatisfecho, como me pasó a mí, pero el desarrollo general de la historia es imposible que no te fascine.

The famous Matt Smith plays Jack, a being who only seeks his own benefit and who will take advantage of Sandie's desire to succeed as a singer in the nightclubs of London. A small but very important character for everything that happens in the story. As I said at the beginning, Diana Rigg, the last character of her career, also acts, so the end of the film, acquires a poetic sense, as a farewell to this fabulous actress. Michael Ajao is the actor who plays John, another design student, who befriends and falls in love with Eloise, he will be her support, the person who helps her, but he does not know that he is putting her life at risk.

Un personaje pequeño pero muy importante para todo lo que ocurre en la historia. Como decía al principio, Diana Rigg, el último personaje de su carrera, también actúa, por lo que el final de la película, adquiere un sentido poético, como despedida de esta fabulosa actriz. Michael Ajao es el actor que interpreta a John, otro estudiante de diseño, que se hace amigo y se enamora de Eloise, él será su apoyo, la persona que la ayude, pero no sabe que está poniendo en riesgo su vida.
I recommend the movie, although its ending is not as expected, I can't forget all the positive aspects and I liked it a lot. The acting of the two leading girls, the sixties setting, with those costumes, the dance scenes and the good music. The director knows how to captivate us visually and the mystery of the film is interesting with a final twist that divides opinions.
Anja Taylor-Joy is already a recognized star, but take note of Thomasin McKenzie's name, she is on the right track, a look at her filmography shows she has a lot to offer.
