How well do you know yourself; can you say you know all what makes you delighted, ecstatic, cheerful and elated, what are your challenges, what keeps you motivated, what frightens you, what encourages and inspires you? The necessity of knowing yourself don’t just end in your personal growth, but tends to aid better relationship understandings, career and well-beings.

How then can you know yourself better? The process of exploring your inner world is so numerous, some of these processes include Self-Meditation, Self-Reflection, Personality Tests, Journaling or Dairy Writing and Taking Feedback from Others etc. Note these are the tips to help you get started.

 MEDITATION: meditation is a methodology or system of concentrating your time and attention on a particular entity. Meditation helps to calm and relaxes your mind and body, reduces your stress and increases your consciousness. Meditation requires your time only on a quiet place. Meditation can be done with or without music, note listening to music produces oxytocin, oxytocin is most times called the love hormone which reduces stress and anxiety when releases into the blood stream. Meditation gives you a clear head which is needed for proper understanding of one’s self.

 SELF-REFLECTION: this involves proper scrutiny and examinations of one’s thought, actions, beliefs and feelings. When one starts questioning his or her self about his or her Goals, Value, Inspirations, Weaknesses, Strength, Passions, Interest, Fears and Insecurities. How one reacts to different Situations and People, how one deals and cope with his or her Stress and Emotions. With proper answering to each of the questions one can understand his or her self better.

 PERSONALITY TEST: just like every other test Personality test are done in other to know more about one’s self. Personality test is a mechanism through which individual can analyze miscellaneous aspects of his or her personality, which includes Traits, Ethics, Preferences and Fashion etc. there are various personality test online which are based on enhanced model and hypothesis of personalities. Some of these personality tests are The Big Five Personality Test (OCEAN), Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI), The Enneagram Test, StrengthsFinder and TypeFinder etc. one major benefit of personality test is enabling one to know his or her uniqueness.

 TAKING FEEDBACK FROM OTHERS: information about one’s self received from others tends to enlighten one about his or her strength, weakness and other features. Feedbacks from others help identify blind sport, enhance skills and gain new perspectives when taken into reasonably consideration. You can ask your friends, relatives, colleagues, room-mate, neighbor and course-mate for feedback about you.

 JOURNALING OR DAIRY WRITING: it is the practice of taken note or writing down one’s thoughts, feelings and day to day activities in other to identify blind sport and weakness for self-correction and also have insights or record one’s experience, achievements and challenges. Journaling or dairy writing help keep track on one’s progress, release emotions and anger, express one’s self and clarify thoughts.

Knowing one’s self very well is not a day’s job, but an entire lifelong journey with plenty of experience to be gained. It requires courage, honesty, curiosity and openness. The more one tend to know one’s self the more one grow and have important value to contribute to one’s society and the world as a whole.
