Where can we find her?
Wieliczka Saltworks is located in the Kraków metropolitan area, in the town of Wieliczka in southern Poland. The mine is one of the oldest salt mines in the world, still in operation, having been built in the 13th century and produced table salt continuously until 2007.
One such amazing place is Wieliczka located in the heart of Europe. This is in the past, an ancient settlement located on a large territory of a salt mine, which contains many legends and thousands of tons of "white gold".
Commercial logging has stopped since 1996 due to low prices and a fear of destroying the environment and causing flooding.

I expected the Wieliczka salt to be pure white or crystalline but the salt is predominantly shades of grey and somewhat resembles granite. The Wieliczka salt mine is over 287 kilometres long and up to 327 metres deep.
In this underground world there are caves, exhibition halls, churches, a lake and even a spa, where allergic and respiratory diseases are treated.
The highlight of the tour is the Chapel of St. Kinga, which dates back to the 17th century.
Inside the mine, there are also various pieces of machinery that have helped the miners over the centuries.
The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of Poland's national historical monuments, visited by more than a million visitors every year.
It's hard to say which of these halls is the most beautiful. But the most impressive is the chapel dedicated to Saint Kinga, where you enter from the top and suddenly see her in front of you. It's also called the Salt Cathedral Underground and it's stunningly beautiful. In the centre is the statue of St Kinga, the protector of the salt miners, and the salt walls are carved with biblical scenes.
The trail also takes you to two of the lakes underground, their beauty revealed to you to the music of Chopin as the lights slowly come on, making you discover the wonder before you.

Legend,
Since ancient times, a legend has circulated in the area. It is said that Princess Kinga was to marry the Prince of Krakow. Before leaving the parental home, Kinga asks her father for a piece of salt.
The father indulges her, and she hides the engagement ring in it and throws the piece of salt in the region of today's Wieliczka Mine.
After some time she returns and the miners dig a deep hole in the spot she indicated and manage to find the princess's ring. Thus it is said that an eternal relationship, a spiritual bond, was formed between Princess Kinga and Mina Wieliczka.

Wieliczka is a gift of nature, enriched by the work of miners over the centuries and a marvel of today's facilities. A place straight out of a fairy tale (which you will also encounter during your visit). A palace of the clammers whose salty walls you can't help but "taste".
