🗺 Estadio Azteca – A „VIP-Tour“ of one of the World’s largest Football Stadiums [EN/DE]

Hello friends! Last weekend I had an opportunity that many football fans probably dream of. Not only was I able to visit one of the biggest football stadiums in the world (and the biggest in Mexico), but I even got an interesting look behind the scenes and was able to enter areas that are not open to the public. It was also my first time watching a Mexican first division match. In this article, I would like to tell you about this unique experience.

Hallo Freunde! Vergangenes Wochenende hatte ich eine Gelegenheit, von der wahrscheinlich viele Fussball-Fans träumen. Ich konnte nicht nur eines der größten Fußball-Stadien der Welt (und das größte Mexikos) besuchen, sondern bekam sogar interessante Einblicke hinter die Kulissen und konnte Bereiche betreten, die für die Öffentlichkeit nicht zugänglich sind. Außerdem sah ich zum ersten Mal ein Match der mexikanischen ersten Liga. In diesem Beitrag möchte ich euch von diesem einzigartigen Erlebnis berichten.

When my girlfriend and I arrived at the stadium in the late afternoon, we still had more than an hour until the start of the match. In front of the huge building, there were lots of stalls selling numerous fan merchandise. A few stalls were also selling Mexican street food. Of course, we couldn't resist and enjoyed tortas and tacos before meeting up with our "contact person".

Als meine Freundin und ich am späten Nachmittag beim Stadion ankamen, hatten wir noch mehr als eine Stunde Zeit, bis zum Beginn des Matches. Vor dem riesigen Gebäude waren viele Verkaufsstände, die zahlreiche Fan-Artikel im Angebot hatten, aufgebaut. Es gab auch ein paar Stände mit mexikanischem Street Food. Natürlich konnten wir nicht widerstehen und genossen Tortas und Tacos, bevor wir uns mit unserer "Kontaktperson" trafen.

This contact person works in a leading position in the stadium and handed over our free tickets for the match at the fence of the stadium grounds. How nice to have good connections ;-) So we were ready to enter the grounds and made our way to the entrance. After a security check and the inspection of our tickets, we stood in front of the impressive building with a capacity of over 80,000 spectators.

Diese Kontaktperson arbeitet in einer führenden Position im Stadion und übergab uns am Zaun des Stadion-Geländes gleich mal unsere Freikarten für das Match. Wie schön, wenn man gute Beziehungen hat ;-) Somit waren wir bereit, das Gelände zu betreten und begaben uns zum Eingang. Nach einem Security-Check und der Kontrolle unserer Tickets standen wir also vor dem beeindruckenden, über 80.000 Zuschauer fassenden Gebäude.

Now we met up with our contact again and off we went on the stadium tour. Via numerous ramps, corridors and through many security checks, we finally reached the TV studio with its balcony, which probably offers by far the best view of the stadium. We were simply impressed by the colossal size of this building and enjoyed this exclusive view while already feeling like VIPs.

Nun trafen wir uns erneut mit unserem Kontakt und schon ging es los mit der Stadion-Tour. Über zahlreiche Rampen, Gänge und durch viele Sicherheitskontrollen gelangten wir schließlich zum TV-Studio mit seinem Balkon, der wohl den mit Abstand besten Blick auf das Stadion bietet. Wir waren einfach nur beeindruckt von der kolossalen Größe dieses Gebäudes und genossen diese exklusive Aussicht, während wir uns bereits wie VIPs fühlten.

But it got even better, because next on the agenda was a visit to the TV areas. Here we were able to watch the people at work who make sure that TV viewers get the best possible live coverage. Unfortunately I had to promise our contact person not to show any technical equipment online. That's why I had to blur areas in some of the photos. In the end, we were more than fascinated by these insights and incredibly grateful when we finished the stadium tour.

Es wurde aber noch besser, denn als nächstes stand ein Besuch der TV-Bereiche auf dem Programm. Hier konnten wir die Leute bei ihrer Arbeit beobachten, die dafür sorgen, dass TV-Zuschauer eine möglichst tolle Live-Berichterstattung bekommen. Leider musste ich unserer Kontaktperson versprechen, kein technisches Equipment öffentlich zu zeigen. Deshalb musste ich in einigen Fotos Bereiche weichzeichnen. Wir waren wirklich mehr als fasziniert von diesen Einblicken und unglaublich dankbar, als wir diese Stadion-Tour beendeten.

Now we made our way to our seats, as the match between Cruz Azul (from Mexico City) and Puebla awaited us. Admittedly, we are both not the biggest football fans, but we let ourselves getting caught up by the atmosphere. There must have been at least 20,000 spectators there, but the stadium still seemed poorly attended due to its huge capacity. Fun fact: the choice of drinks was limited to the two favourite beverages of Mexican football fans: cola and beer.

Nun begaben wir uns zu unseren Sitzplätzen, denn das Match Cruz Azul (aus Mexiko Stadt) gegen Puebla erwartete uns. Zugegeben, wir sind beide nicht die größten Fussball-Fans, doch wir ließen uns von der Atmosphäre mitreißen. Es waren wohl mindestens 20.000 Zuschauer vor Ort, doch das Stadion wirkte durch seine enorme Kapazität trotzdem schlecht besucht. Lustiger Fun-Fact: Die Getränkeauswahl beschränkte sich auf die beiden Lieblingsgetränke der mexikanischen Fussball-Fans: Cola und Bier.

Unfortunately, our area was not covered by a roof and so we had to flee from the rain during the half-time break. In the end, Cruz Azul lost 1:2 against the strong team from Puebla, but for us there was another personal highlight. Our contact person made sure that we were shown several times during the TV broadcast and on the huge screen in the stadium. You can see a screenshot of this in the last photo. It really was an unforgettable afternoon and evening as well as another fascinating experience in Mexico City.

Leider war unserer Bereich nicht überdacht und so mussten wir in der Halbzeitpause vor dem Regen flüchten. Am Ende verlor Cruz Azul auch noch 1:2 gegen die starke Mannschaft aus Puebla, doch für uns gab es ein weiteres, ganz persönliches, Highlight. Unsere Kontaktperson sorgte dafür, dass wir mehrmals bei der TV-Übertragung und auf dem riesigen Bildschirm im Stadion eingeblendet wurden. Auf dem letzten Foto seht ihr einen Screenshot davon. Es war wirklich ein unvergesslicher Nachmittag und Abend sowie eine weitere faszinierende Erfahrung in Mexico City.
