The forest surrounding Oslo is called Oslomarka. The most beautiful side of this city is its surroundings, because it is surrounded on almost all sides by a forest (and from the south by a fjord). "My" forest is the one located in north of the districts of Rødtvet, Ammerud and Grorud. By choosing the right route, you can go even tens of kilometers - straight from the capital of Norway – without encountering any buildings.

Najpiękniejszą stroną tego miasta jest jego otoczenie – z niemal wszystkich stron lasem (a od południa fiordem). „Moim” lasem jest ten, który ciągnie się na północ od dzielnic Rødtvet, Ammerud i Grorud. Dobierając odpowiednio trasę, można iść nawet dziesiątki kilometrów – wprost ze stolicy Norwegii – nie napotykając żadnych zabudowań.

Ole Høiland was a famous Norwegian thief. He was born in 1797 in the south of the country, near Kristiansand. He grew up in a time of poverty and hunger, when Norway experienced a severe economic crisis as a result of the continental blockade of England. Ole was tried for theft for the first time in 1816. Two days after he was transferred from custody to prison, he escaped. In total, he managed to escape 11 times, even from the heavilly guarded Akershus Fortress. The legend of Ole Høiland can be compared a bit to Robin Hood, or maybe polish famous thief Zdzisław Najmrodzki. Høiland's most famous act was the break-in at Norges Bank in Christiania (former name of Oslo). He looted 64,100 speciedaler – which was the name of the currency at that time. It was a gigantic value, as 1 specialaler was equivalent to 30 grams of silver. Høiland hid his loot in many hiding places, among which I managed to reach one - Ole Høilands Hula :)
Ole Høiland był słynnym norweskim złodziejem. Urodził się w 1797 roku na południu kraju, w okolicach Kristiansand. Dorastał w czasach biedy i głodu, kiedy, na skutek blokady kontynentalnej Anglii, w Norwegii miał miejsce poważny kryzys ekonomiczny. Ole pierwszy raz sądzony za kradzież był w 1816. Dwa dni po przewiezieniu z aresztu do więzienia uciekł. Łącznie udało mu się zbiec 11 razy, nawet z pilnie strzeżonej Twierdzy Akershus. Legendę Ole Høiland’a można porównać trochę do Robin Hooda, albo może naszego Najmrodzkiego. Najsłynniejszym dokonaniem Høiland’a było włamanie do Norges Bank’u w Christianii (dawna nazwa Oslo). Jego łupem padło 64 100 speciedaler – tak nazywała się ówczesna waluta. To była gigantyczna wartość, gdyż 1 speciedaler odpowiadał 30 gramom srebra. Swój łup Høiland poukrywał w wielu kryjówkach, wśród których do jednej – Ole Høilands Hula – udało mi się osobiście dotrzeć :)
