Jedná se o jednu z nejvýznamnějších barokních památek na Hodonínsku. Zakladateli byli manželé Maxmilián a Maxmiliána Želečtí z Počernic. Po smrti Maxmiliána Želeckého v roce 1717 převzal řízení stavebních prací řád Servitů. Maxmiliána a Jan Felix Želečtí jim umožnili po dobu stavby bydlet na zámku. Díky tomu byl Jan Felix Želecký Servity prohlášen za třetího zakladatele kostela.
Řád Servitů většinou své kostely zasvěcuje panně Marii ale ve Veselí už v té době kostel této světici zasvěcený byl, proto sv. Andělů strážných.
Slavnostní vysvěcení kostela proběhlo 25. října 1739. Dokončení stavebních prací se datuje do roku 1764. Po zrušení kláštera 4. listopadu 1784 Josefem II. se kostel stal postupně hlavním kostelem pro Veselí nad Moravou. V roce 1858 byl povýšen na farní kostel.
Dnes ve většině prostorů bývalého kláštera sídlí městský úřad. Zbytek pak slouží jako farní úřad.

It is one of the most important Baroque monuments in the Hodonín region. The founders were the couple Maxmilián and Maxmiliána Želečtí from Počernice. After the death of Maxmilián Želecký in 1717, the Servite Order took over the management of the construction works. Maxmiliana and Jan Felix Želečtí allowed them to live in the castle during the construction period. As a result, Jan Felix Želecký was declared the third founder of the church by the Servites.
The Servite Order usually dedicates its churches to the Virgin Mary, but in Veselí there was already a church dedicated to this saint at that time, hence St. of the Guardian Angels.
The consecration ceremony took place on 25 October 1739. The completion of the building work dates back to 1764. After the dissolution of the monastery on 4 November 1784 by Joseph II, the church gradually became the main church for Veselí nad Moravou. In 1858 it was elevated to a parish church.
Today, most of the premises of the former monastery house the town hall. The rest serves as the parish office.

Uvnitř je celý prostor orientován středově, jako osmiúhelník. Je to v našich končinách velmi neobvyklé.

Juliáně z Falconieris, sedmi zakladatelům řádu a sv. Janu Nepomuckému. Tyto oltáře doplňuje hlavní oltář zasvěcený sv. Andělům strážným.
Jediným známým autorem je brněnský sochař Jan Jiří Schauberger, který vytvořil dva velmi kvalitní protějškové oltáře: Panny Marie Bolestné pod křížem a Stětí sv. Barbory.
Uvnitř není povoleno vstupovat mezi lavice dále do prostoru kostela, prostor ohraničen kovanou mříží, takže čelní fotografie bočních oltářů nelze pořídit.
Inside, the whole space is oriented centrally, like an octagon. This is very unusual in our area. In the octagon of the church there are six side altars dedicated to St. Peregrine, St. Philip Benizzi, St. Barbara, Our Lady of Sorrows, St. Juliana of Falconieris, the seven founders of the Order and St. John of Nepomuk. These altars are complemented by the main altar dedicated to the Holy Guardian Angels. The only known author is the Brno sculptor Jan Jiří Schauberger, who created two very fine counterpart altars: Our Lady of Sorrows under the Cross and the Centenary of St. Barbara.
Inside, it is not allowed to enter between the pews further into the church space, the space is bounded by a wrought iron grill, so frontal photographs of the side altars cannot be taken.
