Hello dear community of travellers, how comforting to be back to publish for you, as I have been busy for several weeks with work tasks. This time I am sharing with you reviews of my work trip to Varadero Beach, the main tourist pole in Cuba, which is located in Matanzas province and 140 km (approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes by road) east of Havana. I must confess that this is my first time in this part of the Cuban geography and I found it very pleasant and welcoming, a perfect place to share with family and friends enjoying the landscape and the sea. Varadero occupies the peninsula of Hicacos on the north coast of Cuba, its name refers to a kind of cactus typical of the region. Besides the tourist attractions offered by the hotel infrastructures, the main one is the beach, considered one of the best in the world for the fineness and whiteness of its sands, as well as the transparency of its waters. This stretch of beach stretches for about 22 km.
The trip started in Havana and during the journey along the Via Blanca road that connects both cities it is possible to admire the beautiful countryside on the Havana-Matanzas stretch. Here are some photos.
One of the main bridges along the route is the de Boca de Jaruco bridge, which crosses the river of the same name. From here there is a beautiful view of its mouth where its waters merge with those of the sea.
On reaching the border of the province of Mayabeque with Matanzas is the Bacunayagua Bridge, one of the 7 wonders of Cuban engineering, with a height of 103.5 m above sea level, it crosses a deep canyon with the Bacunayagua River flowing at the bottom. In the background are the waters of the Strait of Florida.
Here I share with you images of the iron bridge over the mouth of the San Juan river at the entrance to the city of Matanzas. Founded in 1904, it is a rotating bridge over which the train used to pass. The iron structure of the bridge was brought from New York and could turn 180 degrees in only one minute and forty seconds.

About 25 minutes after passing through the city of Matanzas we enter Varadero. The entrance to the tourist pole is characterised by several canals or estuaries, which combine with the hotel complexes present there. As you may have noticed in these and the previous photographs, we were threatened by a storm that day.
Villa Cuba Hotel
We stayed at the Hotel Villa Cuba, rated 4 stars, which I found very comfortable with excellent rooms and a friendly treatment by the staff. It has an exquisite swimming pool with a ranchón in the centre where they offer drinks and traditional drinks such as: Piña colada, Daiquirí, juices, and others.
Close by, a medieval-style tower is a striking sight. The tower is a water tank, which has been clad in such a whimsical way.

Varadero Beach
Pictures of Varadero Beach. Note the whiteness of its sand and the tonalities of its waters. The sand is really fine and a curious fact is that it does not burn. Its waters enjoy an incredible transparency where you can make out the sandy bottom and see the ripples formed by the waves, as well as fleeting little fish that like to tickle you. The beach is one of Cuba's main attractions and is ranked 48th among the 50 best beaches in the world.

It is a venue where, in addition to restaurants, cafés and shops, there are exhibition halls, where presentations of important meetings and works of different kinds are held. On this occasion I had the opportunity to exhibit my work.

Hola estimada comunidad de viajeros, que reconfortante volver a publicar para ustedes, pues estuve varias semanas ocupado con tareas de trabajo. En esta ocasión les comparto reseñas de mi viaje de trabajo a la Playa Varadero, principal polo turístico de Cuba, que se encuentra ubicado en la provincia Matanzas y a 140 km (aproximadamente 1h y 30 minutos por carretera) al este de La Habana. Les confieso que es mi primera vez en este paraje de la geografía cubana y me resultó muy agradable y acogedor, sitio perfecto para compartir con familia y amigos disfrutando del paisaje y las bondades del mar. Varadero ocupa la península de Hicacos en la costa norte de Cuba, su nombre hace alusión a una especie de cactus típico de la región. Además, de los atractivos turísticos que ofrecen las infraestructuras hoteleras el principal lo constituye la playa, considerada como una de las mejores del mundo por la finura y blancura de sus arenas, así como la diafanidad de sus aguas. Esta franja de playa se extiende por unos 22 km.
El viaje se inició en La Habana y durante la travesía por la carretera Vía Blanca que comunica ambas ciudades es posible admirar la hermosa campiña en el tramo Habana-Matanzas. He aquí les comparto algunas fotos.
Uno de los principales puentes que nos encontramos en el recorrido es el puente de Boca de Jaruco, que cruza el río del mismo nombre. Desde aquí se contempla una hermosa vista de su desembocadura donde se confunden sus aguas con las del mar.
Ya llegando al límite de la provincia Mayabeque con Matanzas se encuentra el Puente de Bacunayagua, una de las 7 maravillas de la ingeniería cubana con una altura de 103,5 m sobre el nivel del mar cruza un profundo cañón en cuyo fondo discurre el río Bacunayagua. Al fondo las aguas del Estrecho de La Florida.
Aquí les comparto imágenes del puente de hierro sobre la desembocadura del río San Juan a la entrada de la ciudad de Matanzas. Fue fundado en 1904, constituye un puente giratorio sobre el que pasaba el tren antiguamente. La estructura férrea del puente fue traída de Nueva York y podía girar 180 grados en sólo un minuto con cuarenta segundos.

Unos 25 minutos después de atravesar la ciudad de Matanzas entramos a Varadero. La entrada al polo turístico se caracteriza por varios canales o estuarios, que combinan con los complejos hoteleros allí presentes. Como se habrán dado cuenta en estas y las fotografías anteriores, ese día nos amenazaba una tormenta.
Hotel Villa Cuba
Nos alojamos en el Hotel Villa Cuba, calificado de 4 estrellas, el cual me pareció muy confortable con excelentes habitaciones y un trato amable por parte del colectivo laboral del recinto. Cuenta con una exquisita piscina con un ranchón en el centro donde se ofertan bebidas y tragos tradicionales como: Piña colada, Daiquirí, jugos, y otros.
Muy cerca de allí llama la atención un torreón de estilo medieval. El mismo constituye un tanque de agua revestido de tal modo caprichoso.
Aquí les presento fotos de la piscina. En el centro se observa el Ranchón que les había mencionado anteriormente.
Este es el camino que conduce a la tan deseada playa.
Playa Varadero
Imágenes de la Playa Varadero. Nótese la blancura de su arena y las tonalidades de sus aguas. La arena es verdaderamente fina y un hecho curioso es que no quema. Sus aguas gozan de una transparencia increíble donde puedes llegar a divisar el fondo arenoso y ver las rizaduras que ha formado el oleaje, así como fugaces pececillos que gustan de hacerte cosquillas. Esta playa constituye uno de los principales atractivos de Cuba y ocupa el lugar 48 entre las 50 mejores playas del mundo.

Constituye un recinto donde, además, de ofrecer servicios de restaurantes, cafeterías y tiendas se encuentran salas expositivas, dónde se llevan a cabo las presentaciones de importantes reuniones y trabajos de diferentes índoles. En esta ocasión tuve la oportunidad de exponer mi trabajo.
