Right in the heart of Porto, the Crystal Palace Gardens are a peaceful escape from the busy city. With stunning views of the Douro River, Porto rooftops and Vila Nova de Gaia, it's the perfect place for a calm morning walk. Come with me as I take a stroll through these beautiful gardens on a sunny autumn day.
The peacefulness, the crisp morning air and the soft glow of the sun rising over the horizon make it the perfect time to set out for my usual walk. Today, I decided to explore one of my favourite spots in the city the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal or "Crystal Palace Gardens". It's a place that never ceases to amaze me, no matter how many times I visit.

Hoje decidi explorar um dos meus locais preferidos da cidade os Jardins do Palácio de Cristal. É um lugar que nunca deixa de me surpreender, por mais vezes que o visite.
Although it's officially autumn, the weather this weekend felt more like a warm summer's day. The sun was shining brightly in the clear blue sky and the temperature was surprisingly high for this time of year. I couldn't have asked for better weather to enjoy my walk through the gardens. The golden light of the sun made everything look more vibrant the trees, the flowers and even the fountains seemed to sparkle with life.

Embora seja oficialmente outono, o tempo deste fim de semana parecia mais um dia quente de verão. O sol brilhava intensamente no céu azul claro e a temperatura estava surpreendentemente alta para esta altura do ano. Não poderia ter pedido melhor tempo para desfrutar do meu passeio pelos jardins. A luz dourada do sol fazia com que tudo parecesse mais vibrante as árvores, as flores e até as fontes pareciam brilhar de vida.
Porto, with its charming mix of old and new, has a unique energy that changes as the day progresses. But in these quiet early hours, it feels like the city is all mine.

The gardens themselves are a true oasis in the heart of the city. As I continued my walk, I passed through a series of beautifully manicured lawns, tree lined avenues and flower beds bursting with color. The gardens are full of winding paths that invite you to explore at your own pace, discovering hidden corners and quiet spots along the way.

Os jardins em si são um verdadeiro oásis no coração da cidade. Ao continuar a minha caminhada, passei por uma série de relvados maravilhosamente cuidados, avenidas arborizadas e canteiros de flores repletos de cores. Os jardins estão repletos de caminhos sinuosos que convidam a explorar ao seu ritmo, descobrindo recantos escondidos e recantos tranquilos pelo caminho.
One of my favourite parts of the gardens is the mix of different landscapes. There are areas that feel almost wild, with tall trees and dense foliage, and others that are more formal, with neatly trimmed hedges and perfectly placed fountains. Each section of the garden has its own unique charm, and I often find myself taking a different route each time I visit, just to see what new discoveries I can make.

Uma das minhas partes favoritas dos jardins é a mistura de diferentes paisagens. Há zonas que parecem quase selvagens, com árvores altas e folhagem densa, e outras mais formais, com sebes bem aparadas e fontes perfeitamente posicionadas. Cada secção do jardim tem o seu encanto único, e muitas vezes dou por mim a seguir um caminho diferente de cada vez que o visito, só para ver que novas descobertas posso fazer.
One of the highlights of the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal is the breathtaking view of the Douro River. As I made my way through the winding paths of the gardens, I soon found myself at one of the many lookout points. From here, I could see the Douro flowing gently below, its waters glistening in the sunlight. The river, with its calm, steady presence, adds a sense of tranquility to the gardens, reminding me to slow down and take in the beauty around me.

Um dos pontos altos dos Jardins do Palácio de Cristal é a vista deslumbrante sobre o rio Douro. Ao percorrer os caminhos sinuosos dos jardins, deparei-me rapidamente com um dos muitos miradouros. Daqui, pude ver o Douro a fluir suavemente lá em baixo, as suas águas a brilhar à luz do sol. O rio, com a sua presença calma e constante, acrescenta uma sensação de tranquilidade aos jardins, lembrando-me de abrandar e absorver a beleza que me rodeia.
The view extends far beyond the river itself, offering a stunning panorama of the city of Porto on one side and Vila Nova de Gaia on the other. It's easy to lose track of time while standing here, simply admiring the view. There’s something incredibly soothing about watching the river wind its way through the city, flanked by the historic buildings of Porto on one side and the famous port wine cellars of Gaia on the other.

A vista estende-se muito para além do próprio rio, oferecendo um panorama deslumbrante sobre a cidade do Porto, de um lado, e Vila Nova de Gaia, do outro. É fácil perder a noção do tempo estando aqui, simplesmente admirando a vista. Há algo de incrivelmente reconfortante em observar o rio a serpentear pela cidade, ladeado pelos edifícios históricos do Porto, de um lado, e pelas famosas caves do vinho do Porto de Gaia, do outro.
Standing at the edge of the gardens, I couldn't help but admire how beautifully Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia complement each other. Porto, with its steep, narrow streets, historic churches, and colorful houses, always looks like something out of a postcard. From this vantage point, I could see the iconic redtiled roofs that make the city so distinctive, as well as the towering bell towers that dot the skyline.
Across the river, Vila Nova de Gaia looked equally impressive, especially with the sunlight reflecting off the rooftops of the port wine cellars that line the waterfront. The contrast between the two cities Porto with its energetic atmosphere and Gaia with its more laid back charm makes the view from the Crystal Palace Gardens all the more special.

Parado à beira dos jardins, não pude deixar de admirar a forma como o Porto e Vila Nova de Gaia se complementam lindamente. O Porto, com as suas ruas estreitas e íngremes, igrejas históricas e casas coloridas, parece sempre algo saído de um postal. Deste ponto de vista, pude ver os icónicos telhados vermelhos que tornam a cidade tão distinta, bem como os imponentes campanários que salpicam o horizonte.
Do outro lado do rio, Vila Nova de Gaia parecia igualmente impressionante, sobretudo com a luz solar reflectida nos telhados das caves do vinho do Porto que ladeiam a zona ribeirinha. O contraste entre as duas cidades o Porto com a sua atmosfera energética e Gaia com o seu charme mais descontraído – torna a vista dos Jardins a partir do Palácio de Cristal ainda mais especial.
One of the things I love most about the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal is how peaceful it feels, despite being so close to the city center. Even on a sunny weekend day, it never feels overcrowded or hectic. There's always a quiet spot to sit and relax, whether it's on a bench overlooking the river or under the shade of a large tree.

Uma das coisas que mais adoro nos Jardins do Palácio de Cristal é a tranquilidade que proporciona, apesar de estar tão perto do centro da cidade. Mesmo num dia ensolarado de fim de semana, nunca parece sobrelotado ou agitado. Há sempre um local tranquilo para se sentar e relaxar, seja num banco com vista para o rio ou à sombra de uma grande árvore.
What makes this place so special is how it seamlessly combines the beauty of nature with the energy of the city. On one side, you have the bustling streets of Porto, full of life and activity, and on the other, you have the calm, soothing presence of the gardens. It's the perfect balance and it's what keeps me coming back time and time again.

O que torna este lugar tão especial é a forma como combina perfeitamente a beleza da natureza com a energia da cidade. De um lado, temos as ruas movimentadas do Porto, cheias de vida e atividade, e do outro, a presença calma e reconfortante dos jardins. É o equilíbrio perfeito e é o que me faz voltar sempre.
There's something deeply refreshing about being able to escape into nature without having to leave the city. The Crystal Palace Gardens offer just that a peaceful retreat where you can recharge, reflect, and reconnect with nature, all while enjoying some of the best views Porto has to offer!
