It was our second day in Ilocos Norte. After a quick visit to Bantay Abot Cave and Patapat Viaduct, we had to start the long journey back to Vigan, Ilocos Sur. As I was the one who planned the entire trip, I researched and listed down all the places we would want to visit. I was able to communicate the list to our driver/guide to make sure we leave no stones unturned. We're lucky that our driver/guide was very familiar with all the destinations on our list; it was evident by how confident he was that although there was a lot on my list we'd be able to visit all of them within the 3 days we allotted. 😉
One destination you shouldn't miss when you're in Ilocos Norte is the Bangui Wind Farm. It wasn't my first time seeing windmills. I've seen a few in Guimaras. Yup! Guimaras has windmills, too! It may not be as famous as the windmills in Bangui and Burgos in Ilocos Norte but they're working for the same purpose: generating power! Why you shouldn't miss this place? There are only a handful of windmills in the country so might take advantage that you're already near one.
It's amazing to think that this part of my country is able to harness the power of the strong wind that's around all year long. It's smart, isn't it? I could only wish we could have more wind farms but obviously, it's not applicable in all places of the Philippines. In case you are wondering how huge these windmills are, they're 70-meter high. According to this article I read, there are around 20 units lined up in Bangui Bay.
We arrived here just before noon so it was a bit hot already. Do bring your sunglasses or caps and better apply sunscreens before leaving your car!
