I am close to graduate as an industrial designer at the Faculty of the UBA in Argentina and on certain occasions I have been able to go to industrial factories such as Ferrum (where they manufacture elements for bathrooms) or Massalin (cigarette factory) and this time there was an open call to go to the Toyota factory, at first I was in doubt but I preferred to sign up, if I could not go or did not give me the time I would notify but fortunately it was not the case.
Ya me queda poco para recibirme como diseñador industrial en la Facultad de la UBA en Argentina y en ciertas ocasiones he podido ir a fabricas industriales como pueden ser la de Ferrum (Donde fabrican elementos para baños) o a Massalin (Fabrica de cigarrillos) y en esta ocasión hubo una convocatoria abierta para ir a la fabrica de Toyota, en un comienzo estaba con duda pero preferí anotarme, llegado el caso de que no pudiera ir o no me dieran los tiempos avisaría pero por suerte no fue el caso.
The day arrived, we had to go to the faculty where a bus would take all the people signed up and it would be a trip of about two hours, there were many people and I did not know if any acquaintance would go, but luckily I met some friends who had also signed up. To my surprise, more than a thousand people had signed up for the trip, but of all of them, priority was given to Industrial Design students, so I couldn't be happier with the opportunity.
Llego el día, había que ir hasta la facultad donde un micro llevaría a todas las personas anotadas y seria un viaje de aproximadamente dos horas, había bastantes personas y no sabía si iría algún conocido, pero por suerte me encontré con algunos amigos que también se habían anotado. Para mi sorpresa a esta convocatoria se habían anotado más de mil personas, pero de todas ellas se priorizo a los estudiantes de Diseño industrial así que no podría estar más contento con la oportunidad.
The day was very rainy, when we arrived at the plant we had to wait a while to enter and when we got off we had to hurry to enter because it had begun to rain harder, once I was inside I could see this beautiful work where an artist was commissioned to perform through a car showing all the parts that make up one of the most emblematic vehicles that are manufactured in this plant. It is a fundamental element that takes all the attention and photos once you enter.
El día era muy lluvioso, al llegar a la planta tuvimos que esperar un rato para entrar y al bajarnos tuvimos que apurarnos a entrar porque había comenzado a llover más fuerte, una vez estuve dentro pude observar esta obra preciosa en donde a un artista le encargaron realizar por medio de un auto la muestra de todas las partes de componen a uno de los vehículos más emblemáticos que se fabrican en esta planta. Es un elemento fundamental que se lleva toda la atención y las fotos una vez se ingresa.

At the same time, there was a kind of timeline where they told about the beginnings of Toyota, how they started the first plant here in Argentina, the norms and quality standards they handle and to my surprise they also managed to acquire the first vehicle that was manufactured and sold, an absolute feat that lasted so long and that they were able to get it for their exhibition.
A su vez alrededor había una especie de linea de tiempo en donde contaban como fueron los inicios de Toyota, como inicio la primera planta aquí en Argentina, las normas y estándares de calidad que manejan y para mi sorpresa también lograron adquirir el primer vehículo que se fabrico y vendió una hazaña absoluta que haya durado tanto y que lo pudieron conseguir para su exposición.

Sadly I could not take pictures inside the plant due to security regarding their production processes because all this despite being known has a lot of legal regulations of patents and endless etcetera but I must say that although the visit inside the plant felt short it was a great experience, you could see blocks and blocks of assembly lines with robotic arms placing parts to the vehicle chassis, points where the operators were in charge of welding specific parts or gluing plastic parts, a whole millimeter system of parts distribution, a very great security in the sense of protecting the operators of the machines in movement and what surprised me enormously was that all the vehicles that were being produced were already sold, there was none left over for stock since Toyota has this philosophy of producing for the demand.
Tristemente no pude sacar fotos dentro de la planta debido a la seguridad respecto a sus procesos productivos ya que todo esto a pesar de ser conocido tiene mucha normativa legal de patentes y un sinfín de etcéteras pero debo decir que aunque la visita dentro de la planta se sintió corta fue una gran experiencia, se podían observar cuadras y cuadras de líneas de ensamblaje con brazos robóticos colocando piezas al chasis del vehículo, puntos donde los operarios se encargaban de soldar partes especificas o encastras piezas plásticas, todo un sistema milimetrado de distribución de piezas, una seguridad muy grande en el sentido de proteger a los operarios de las maquinas en movimientos y lo que me sorprendió enormemente era que todos los vehículos que se estaban produciendo ya estaban vendidos, no sobraba ninguno para stock ya que Toyota tiene esa filosofía de producir para la demanda.
This trip really opened my head, I also noticed that not everything is automated since a little more than 50% of the manufacturing of the vehicles is handled by people and the rest is automated, I would have liked to be able to tour more, but I understand that Toyota has a reduced schedule of visits and that time they have to make the most of it.
Este viaje me logro abrir mucho la cabeza, también note que realmente no todo esta automatizado ya que un poco más del 50% de la fabricación de los vehículos es manejada por personas y el resto si esta automatizado, me hubiera gustado poder recorrer más, pero entiendo que Toyota tiene unos horarios reducidos de visitas y ese tiempo con el que cuentan deben aprovecharlo al máximo.
