Hive Beach Cafe, Burton Bradstock

Hive Beach Cafe

We’ve just got back from Burton Bradstock (Dorset) having spent a fabulous afternoon there. We took the scenic road from Abbotsbury across to Burton Bradstock and as my wife and I were passengers, we enjoyed the view looking back towards the famous Chesil Beach with the long finger-like stretch of land that is Portland Bill dominating the horizon. The road twists and turns, rolling along and on a summer’s day, I recommend opening your car windows, letting that beautiful sea air rush through.

Hive Beach is run by the National Trust and if you are a member, you can scan your card in return for a parking voucher for the entire day. We got there fairly early, parking in the field at about 11:30 before it got too busy.

We made a beeline for the aptly named Hive Beach Cafe which has been highly recommended (see photo above). It’s nothing posh but it’s popularity was clear to see. People have had trouble getting in because at the time you couldn’t book, you had to take your chances.

It’s right on the beach, with views out to sea and they do beautiful fish dishes, ranging from Fish and Chips (what I had) to Lobster (Tina had that). The prices are very reasonable, yes a bit expensive for some maybe but the quality was first rate.

Afterwards we walked it off a bit by taking the coastal path towards Chesil, though not as far as that. You could see it though and looking back the other way, you could see Golden Cap, the rest of Dorset and the beginnings of Devon.

What a place. It just has to go on Pinmapple! Plus it’s called Hive beach, are there any other places in the world with the Hive name?
