Uluru/Ayers Rock Road Trip (1989)

I had been working lots of hours back in the year 1988 to 1989 so decided to have some time off between jobs and drive around and see bit of Australia. The main attraction was to try and make it to Australia's Red Centre. So I loaded my small, second hand Toyota Corolla station wagon car up with a bit of camping gear and hit the road, travelling north from Brisbane.

I started off travelling by myself, only camped when necessary. I preferred to stay at Backpackers and youth hostels. It was great for meeting people from all over the world and most of the trip I teamed up with other like-minded travellers to share petrol costs and experiences.

Mission Beach. I was staying at a Tree House Backpackers accommodation nearby.

Kuranda Train Station. I stayed with some friends in Cairns and did a few local day trips.

It was mainly called Ayers Rock back in the 80s and there was a chain so you could walk to the top. But it was not long afterwards that the chain was removed for culture significance reasons and later hiking to the top was banned completely.

It was a lot further up to the top than what I thought .

There was a few photos missing from time spent in Katherine Gorge. I say missing because I didn't take the camera on an overnight canoe trip we did up the gorges.

From Kakadu it was onto Darwin and then Western Australia but I will have to look up for some more photos for that post.

Thankyou to TravelFeed and Hive for making it possible to relive a few of my old travelling adventures.
