Hello everyone, I hope you are well 🙂 today I want to show you a little more about my vacation in the Azores. In the Azores there are several pineapple plantations and we went to one of the many that exist in the Azores. I learned a lot of things but I'm sure what sticks in my head is that a pineapple takes two months to be ready. I look forward to showing you and telling you a little about this very enriching experience.
We came to the pineapple plantation because my boyfriend wanted to come, I'm honest. I didn't think I would enjoy learning about this so much, I didn't even think I would learn anything. I'm glad we came 🙂 We parked the car, walked a little and found a sign saying pineapple plantation and there was a pineapple drawn on it. My boyfriend and I went in and loved it.
Right after the entrance there was another sign that told the summarized history of pineapples. This sign highlighted that the tradition of growing pineapples dates back to the 19th century, when the first greenhouses were built. The plantation has been perfected over the years, becoming a symbol of local agriculture.
My boyfriend and I stayed with the number of greenhouses that existed there, and we went to the smallest plantation, there was an even bigger one that is even better known. Each greenhouse represents a phase of the pineapple. When walking through the greenhouses we could see the little ones involved in the first greenhouses right up to the ripe fruits ready for harvest. I didn't know that pineapples were all this work🤣 This work requires a lot of organization and care.
People enter the greenhouses and look closely at the pineapples. Each greenhouse had the ideal temperature for the pineapple to grow well. It was evident that the farmers were very careful and willing to do what they did.
At each entrance to the greenhouse there was a paper that said what stage the pineapple was at. This information is important for anyone who wants to learn more about pineapple development. Each greenhouse was identified with details such as "Planting", "Initial Growth", "Development" and "Maturation", allowing an organized and educational visualization of the process. These signs demonstrated the care taken to maintain accurate records and transparency in the cultivation of sugar pineapples.
In some greenhouses, unfortunately, entry was not permitted due to the need to maintain a controlled, draft-free environment. These specific conditions were crucial to guarantee the ideal growth of the pineapples, as any change in temperature or humidity could compromise the plants' development. These greenhouses, protected from external interference, ensure that the pineapples receive the necessary care in a stable environment. Although we were unable to enter, the explanation given highlighted the importance of maintaining perfect conditions for the production of high quality fruit.
The aforementioned pineapple plantation has a space where visitors can watch a five-minute film about the history of pineapples. This area is typically a dedicated room equipped with a television that plays the film continuously. The documentary covers the entire process, from the beginning of the cultivation of pineapples to their harvest and distribution. It is an excellent opportunity for visitors to learn about the agricultural techniques used, the economic importance of pineapple cultivation and the historical evolution of this fruit in the regions where it is grown.
In the end I went to the store that has it, visitors can enjoy a shot of pineapple liqueur, I will confess that I wasn't a fan of the liqueur, my boyfriend didn't drink it. I love pineapple but the liqueur didn't really catch my attention, there were lots of liqueurs for sale, I brought it to my mother and my boyfriend's mother and they loved it. There were also lots of things there with pineapple designs, dresses, t-shirts, pants, skirts, cushions, necklaces, there was everything you could imagine. Very cute. I highly recommend visiting one of the plantations on the island of São Miguel.

Olá a todos, espero que estejam bem 🙂 hoje quero mostrar-vos um pouco mais sobre as minhas férias nos Açores. Nos Açores existem várias plantações de ananás e fomos a uma das muitas que existem nos Açores. Aprendi muitas coisas mas tenho certeza que o que fica na minha cabeça é que um abacaxi demora dois meses para ficar pronto. Estou ansioso para mostrar e contar um pouco sobre essa experiência tão enriquecedora.
Viemos para a plantação de abacaxi porque meu namorado queria vir, para ser sincero. Não pensei que iria gostar tanto de aprender sobre isso, nem pensei que aprenderia alguma coisa. Que bom que viemos 🙂 Estacionamos o carro, andamos um pouco e encontramos uma placa dizendo plantação de abacaxi e tinha um abacaxi desenhado nela. Eu e meu namorado entramos e adoramos.
Logo após a entrada havia outra placa que contava resumidamente a história do abacaxi. Esta placa realçava que a tradição de cultivo do ananás remonta ao século XIX, altura em que foram construídas as primeiras estufas. A plantação foi aperfeiçoada ao longo dos anos, tornando-se um símbolo da agricultura local.
Eu e meu namorado ficamos com a quantidade de estufas que existiam ali, e fomos até a plantação menor, tinha uma ainda maior que é ainda mais conhecida. Cada estufa representa uma fase do abacaxi. Ao caminhar pelas estufas pudemos observar desde os pequenos envolvidos nas primeiras estufas até aos frutos maduros prontos para a colheita. Eu não sabia que abacaxi dava todo esse trabalho🤣 Esse trabalho exige muita organização e cuidado.
As pessoas entram nas estufas e observam atentamente os abacaxis. Cada estufa tinha a temperatura ideal para o abacaxi crescer bem. Era evidente que os agricultores eram muito cuidadosos e estavam dispostos a fazer o que faziam.
Em cada entrada da estufa havia um papel que dizia em que estágio se encontrava o abacaxi. Essas informações são importantes para quem deseja saber mais sobre o desenvolvimento do abacaxi. Cada estufa foi identificada com detalhes como “Plantio”, “Crescimento Inicial”, “Desenvolvimento” e “Maturação”, permitindo uma visualização organizada e educativa do processo. Essas sinalizações demonstram o cuidado em manter registros precisos e transparentes no cultivo do abacaxi sacarino.
Em algumas estufas, infelizmente, a entrada não foi permitida devido à necessidade de manter um ambiente controlado e livre de correntes de ar. Estas condições específicas foram cruciais para garantir o crescimento ideal dos ananases, pois qualquer alteração de temperatura ou humidade poderia comprometer o desenvolvimento das plantas. Estas estufas, protegidas de interferências externas, garantem que os ananases recebam os cuidados necessários num ambiente estável. Embora não tenhamos podido entrar, a explicação dada realçou a importância de manter condições perfeitas para a produção de fruta de elevada qualidade.
A referida plantação de ananás dispõe de um espaço onde os visitantes podem assistir a um filme de cinco minutos sobre a história do ananás. Esta área é normalmente uma sala dedicada equipada com uma televisão que reproduz o filme continuamente. O documentário aborda todo o processo, desde o início do cultivo do abacaxi até sua colheita e distribuição. É uma excelente oportunidade para os visitantes conhecerem as técnicas agrícolas utilizadas, a importância económica do cultivo do ananás e a evolução histórica deste fruto nas regiões onde é cultivado.
No final fui até a loja que tem, os visitantes podem saborear uma dose de licor de abacaxi, confesso que não era fã do licor, meu namorado não bebeu. Adoro abacaxi mas o licor não me chamou muito a atenção, tinha muitos licores à venda, levei para minha mãe e para a mãe do meu namorado e eles adoraram. Lá também tinha muita coisa com desenhos de abacaxi, vestidos, camisetas, calças, saias, almofadas, colares, tinha de tudo que você pudesse imaginar. Muito bonitinho. Recomendo vivamente uma visita a uma das plantações da ilha de São Miguel.
