Hello, friends. Today I want to tell you about my recent visit to a place that, although it does not attract as much as those museums full of beautiful pieces, has its own particular charm. I am referring to the Guamuhaya Museum of Archaeology in Trinidad, a place full of history that opens the way to curiosity and research.
This museum has become quite familiar to me, thanks to a friend who works there and who becomes my personal guide every time I am in town. Located in an 18th century mansion in the heart of the historic center; a beautiful place with a cozy atmosphere.
Unlike other museums, you won't find the most dazzling pieces here, but you will find the oldest ones. The museum has a small but charming inner courtyard, where a well in perfect condition that is still in use stands out. Very well preserved, it is the original well that the house has had since its beginnings.
In some of its rooms you can appreciate a variety of parts and pieces of porcelain from different centuries and manufacturers. Objects used by the colonizers to mark the slaves and identify them as their property. There are also pieces of clay, stone and bone objects belonging to the first inhabitants of Cuba, discovered in excavations dating back to before the 15th century. Personally, I am attracted to excavations, since it is something unexpected that involves a deep investigation, both geographically and historically.
One room in particular gives me a bit of a thrill, the one that houses specimens of endangered animals native to Cuba and human remains of the first inhabitants. Although I am a frequent visitor, I must admit that this room gives me a certain chill, so this time I decided not to take pictures there. However, it is fascinating to see how the museum delves into the still ongoing research, making it a place full of mystery and discovery.

The Guamuhaya Museum of Archaeology in Trinidad is, without a doubt, a place that lovers of excavations, history and research will appreciate. Although it may not have the most glittering pieces, its value lies in the knowledge and connection with the past. So, if you are ever in the city, do not miss the opportunity to enjoy objects with a past of more than 500 years and others with mysteries yet to be discovered.
