The day after visiting Møns Klint, we decided to do something a little bit easier because Chapo (our dog) was still pretty destroyed, and we had seen so many great things that we just wanted to be calm.
The weather was nice and the map told us, that a place named Faxe, was not too far away. My friend Fie told me that it was a place with nice views and even some famous people sometimes go there to take photoshoots because of the scenery. So we decided to go.
We drove through some tiny Danish villages passing the beautiful landscape and soon arrived at Faxe Kalksbrud.
El día después de visitar Møns Klint, decidimos hacer algo un poco más fácil porque Chapo (nuestro perro) todavía estaba bastante destrozado y habíamos visto tantas cosas maravillosas ya que solo queríamos estar tranquilas.
Hacía buen tiempo y el mapa nos decía que un lugar llamado Faxe no estaba muy lejos. Mi amiga Fie me dijo que era un lugar con lindas vistas e incluso algunos famosos a veces van allí a tomarse sesiones de fotos por el paisaje. Entonces decidimos ir.
Condujimos a través de algunos pequeños pueblos daneses pasando por el hermoso paisaje y pronto llegamos a Faxe Kalksbrud.
Same as Møns Klint, this place used to be covered by water millions of years ago. We haven´t found many fossils in Møns Klint so coming to Faxe we expected to find more. We were told to find turquoise lagoons, chalky white mountains, and ancient fossils in this place. Of course also in Denmark, the Germans get to read some signs to learn about the place - it is even written in German as well 😂
Al igual que Møns Klint, este lugar solía estar cubierto de agua hace millones de años. No hemos encontrado muchos fósiles en Møns Klint, por lo que al venir a Faxe esperábamos encontrar más. Nos dijeron que en este lugar encontraríamos lagunas de color turquesa, montañas de color blanco calcáreo y fósiles antiguos. Por supuesto, también en Dinamarca los alemanes pueden leer algunos carteles para conocer el lugar; incluso están escritos en alemán 😂
The Faxe Kalkbruch is also located in the middle of Zealand. It shows a part of Denmark's history, which was of great importance millions of years ago! Basking sharks, crocodiles and other prehistoric sea creatures swam here 63 million years ago.
Three interesting facts about Faxe Kalkbruch:
The Faxe Kalkbruch is a sight and a workplace at the same time. If you visit the quarry on a daily basis there will be much more noise and large machinery than on the weekend.
Although it is tempting to jump into the azure waters of the Faxe limestone quarry, it is strongly discouraged. The lime makes the water alkaline, which can cause skin rashes, and the lakes are so deep that there are large temperature swings that can lead to cold shock.
The Faxe limestone is often used for filming. Among other things, some scenes for the Danish Christmas series “Jesus & Josefine” were filmed here as well as some part of Starwars. Due to the special light, azure water, and desert-like landscape, the limestone quarry is also a popular location for professional photo shoots.
Reading so much about that place we were even more curious and went on towards the area.
El Faxe Kalkbruch también se encuentra en el centro de Zelanda. ¡Muestra una parte de la historia de Dinamarca, que fue de gran importancia hace millones de años! Tiburones peregrinos, cocodrilos y otras criaturas marinas prehistóricas nadaban aquí hace 63 millones de años.
Tres datos interesantes sobre Faxe Kalkbruch:
1. El Faxe Kalkbruch es al mismo tiempo un espectáculo y un lugar de trabajo. Si lo visitan durante la semana a lo mejor habrá mucho más ruido y maquinaria que el fin de semana.
2. Aunque a todos nos encanta saltar a las aguas azules de la cantera de piedra caliza de Faxe, no se recomienda hacerlo. La cal hace que el agua sea alcalina, lo que puede provocar erupciones cutáneas, y los lagos son tan profundos que se producen grandes cambios de temperatura que pueden provocar un shock de frío.
3. La piedra caliza de Faxe se utiliza a menudo para filmar. Aquí se rodaron, entre otras cosas, algunas escenas de la serie navideña danesa “Jesus & Josefine”, así como parte de Starwars. Debido a la luz especial, el agua azul y el paisaje desértico, la cantera de piedra caliza también es un lugar popular para sesiones fotográficas profesionales.
Al leer tanto sobre ese lugar sentimos aún más curiosidad y continuamos hacia la zona.
Our first stop was the prism in the Faxe limestone quarry right next to the restaurant /hotel. It is located on the outer edge of the Faxe limestone quarry and is a viewing platform, which is shaped like a prism - hence the name. Between the two mirrored triangles is the viewing platform, from which you can enjoy the impressive view of the entire Faxe limestone quarry.
Nuestra primera parada fue el prisma en la cantera de piedra caliza de Faxe, justo al lado del restaurante/hotel. Se encuentra en el borde exterior de la cantera de piedra caliza de Faxe y es un mirador con forma de prisma, de ahí toma su nombre. Entre los dos triángulos de espejos se encuentra el mirador, desde donde se puede disfrutar de una vista impresionante.
To be honest from above it didn´t look very special and we were not so motivated to go and check it out first. Elena and Chapo were still tired from yesterday's walk and seeing the restaurant was very tempting to just sit down and look from above.
So I had to use all my motivation energy to get them to walk down to the lakes with me and check them out, as my explorer soul was highly motivated and I was willing to discover more!
There was a walking path right next to the restaurant leading downstairs and we followed.
Para ser sincera, desde arriba no parecía muy especial y no estábamos tan motivadas para ir a comprobarlo primero. Elena y Chapo todavía estaban cansadas de la caminata de ayer y ver el restaurante hizo que solo querian quedarse alli, sentarse y mirar desde arriba.
Así que tuve que usar toda mi energía de motivación para lograr que caminaran conmigo hasta los lagos y los echaran un vistazo, ya que mi alma de exploradora estaba muy motivada y estaba dispuesta a descubrir más.
Había un sendero para caminar justo al lado del restaurante que conducía a la planta baja y lo seguimos.
Passing halfway we found ourselves on some kind of picnic place or theater stage thingy with another sign telling some story.. but this time we didn´t get any translation so I don´t know what it was for. also, I had to move forward fast to not lose motivation for Elena and Chapo 😅 - The great view towards the colorful lakes was helping a bit.
Pasando a mitad de camino nos encontramos como en un lugar de picnic o escenario de teatro con otro cartel que contaba alguna historia... pero esta vez no obtuvimos ninguna traducción, así que no sé para qué servía. Además, tuve que avanzar rápido para no perder la motivación de Elena y Chapo 😅 - La gran vista hacia los coloridos lagos ayudó un poco mantenerla.
And then after about half an hour we finally made it to the bottom. The rocks were very white - especially with the sun shining on them and it was super quiet down there. We walked towards the first lake and already found some fossils and rocks that looked super interesting.
Later we found out that there was an option to get a guide in order to find more fossils and get to know more about them. Another option is to rent a hammer and chisel at the geological museum, find some rocks, and then bring them there to find out what it is.
Y después de aproximadamente media hora finalmente llegamos al fondo. Las rocas eran muy blancas, especialmente cuando el sol brillaba sobre ellas y estaba muy tranquilo allí abajo. Caminamos hacia el primer lago y ya encontramos algunos fósiles y rocas que parecían súper interesantes.
Luego descubrimos que existía la opción de conseguir un guía para poder encontrar más fósiles y conocer más sobre ellos. Otra opción es alquilar un martillo y un cincel en el museo geológico, buscar algunas rocas y luego llevarlas allí para descubrir qué es.
There were even some small holes and little caves in the mountain full of fossils. - very interesting! Now I could imagine much easier how this whole island many million years ago was located within a large ocean with animals and plants located right where we were standing.
Elena likes to boulder so she climbed up one of the rocks for a little bit. It was not easy to hold on though as the fossils are very sharp.
Incluso había algunos pequeños hoyos y pequeñas cuevas en la montaña llenas de fósiles. - ¡muy interesante! Ahora puedo imaginarme mucho más fácilmente cómo toda esta isla hace muchos millones de años estaba ubicada dentro de un gran océano con animales y plantas ubicados justo donde estábamos paradas.
A Elena le gusta el boulder, así que subió un rato a una de las rocas. No fue fácil sostenerse porque los fósiles son muy afilados.
Now that all of us finally liked the place it was easier to move on and we decided to check out the lagoon with this great Caribbean blue water, that everyone was talking about and that was sooo nice that even photoshoots were made here!
Ahora que a todos de nosotros finalmente nos gustó el lugar, fue más fácil seguir adelante y decidimos conocer la laguna el agua azul caribeño, de que todos hablaban y que fue tan agradable que incluso se hicieron sesiones de fotos aquí.
As we were the only ones walking around here and the sun came out we decided to let Chapo jump around a little bit. Of course, he immediately took advantage and went for a swim as well. 😂
Como éramos las únicas caminando por aquí y salió el sol decidimos dejar que el Chapo salte un poquito libremente. Por supuesto, inmediatamente aprovechó y se fue a nadar también. 😂
It was nice to enjoy the views and the tranquility for a bit and take the good vibes in. I was surprised how many plants were growing right on the side of the lake as the water was probably not the best for them.
Fue agradable disfrutar un rato de las vistas y de la tranquilidad / de las buenas vibras. Me sorprendió encontrarme con esa cantidad de plantas que crecían justo al lado del lago, ya que el agua probablemente no era la mas saludable para ellas.
There was an option to walk around this lake towards another one and another and another... I think you could walk up to 4 hours in this area, but we decided to chill on the lake for a bit more and then walk back to the restaurant to get some snacks and drinks checking the rest out from above.
Había una opción de caminar alrededor de este lago hacia otro y otro y otro... Creo que se podía caminar hasta 4 horas en esta área, pero decidimos descansar un poco más en el lago y luego caminar de regreso al restaurante para comer algunos bocadillos y tomar algunos tragos mirando el resto desde arriba.
Muscles were still hurting from the day before, so we were glad that we had made it all the way up the stairs. It was a good decision to enjoy the look from above drinking a cold beer. Also when we went back up a big bus with tourists was just arriving and walking down - we had been lucky to enjoy the place all by ourselves.
Todavía nos dolían los músculos del día anterior, así que nos alegramos de haber subido las escaleras. Fue una buena decisión disfrutar de la mirada desde arriba bebiendo una cerveza fría. Además, cuando volvimos a subir, un gran autobús con turistas acababa de llegar y bajaron todos caminando; tuvimos la suerte de disfrutar del lugar solas.
Again it was a great finish to a great day. After the snacks, we already went home enjoying the views of the landscape and then chilled out at our Airbnb for a bit to recharge our batteries for our next big planned adventure.

De nuevo fue un gran final para un gran día. Después de los snacks, ya nos fuimos a casa disfrutando de las vistas del paisaje y luego relajamos un rato en nuestro Airbnb para recargar pilas para nuestra próxima gran aventura.
