Ormond Beach Florida

Ormond Beach Florida Video and pics. This set was taken at the North end of Ormond Beach. Just South of Flagler Beach that I've posted previously on. This is a nice, quiet little beach as you'll see from the pics and video.

Even though it was a Sunday afternoon, the shores are nearly empty of people save for just a few. Unlike the nearby Daytona Beach that is just a few miles further South.

I really enjoyed this walk, I posted a few pictures and short video of the waves last week, but this week's video is a bit longer and much better imho. It "almost" captures the feel and sound of the relaxing waves. A fairly quiet wave day with them only about 2-3 feet. They will sometimes double that size, but not often over that here unless some really big storm.

One of the things I love most here is watching the pelicans. The way they often fly in formation and just hover like a squadron of planes coming in is just fascinating to me.

I pulled this pic from the video, but watch the video for best view.

Then there is the sand, it has a great texture, and the locals like it for the reddish tint that it has. This apparently comes from local Coquina bedrock eroded, and from Coquina shell fragments that have absorbed the color of iron oxide.

It's not always this pretty here though. There are times of scary weather. Hurricane Helene went mostly up and around us here last week with a little bit of 50mph winds and few inches of rain for us. Not nearly as bad as those hit directly by the hurricane level winds. We are now tracking Tropical storm Milton, which is so far still strengthening, expecting to become hurricane level in the next couple days and reach here on Wednesday, covering nearly all of Florida at some level. We're of course it lowers back to Tropical Storm level before reaching us. We'll be watching very closely over the next few days.
