Hey Hiveans!
I've been feeling a bit lost and unmotivated lately, so I decided to take a weekend trip to Mayana by Blue Space Mountain Resort in Barili, Cebu. I had heard great things about this place from one of my colleague, and I was looking for a place to relax and recharge.
MAYANA is a beautiful mountain resort located about two hours from Cebu City. The resort is surrounded by lush rainforest and has stunning views of the surrounding mountains. There are several accommodation options available, including huts with their own private pools.
Mayana is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It's a place to relax, rejuvenate, and reconnect with nature. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quick weekend getaway.
How to get there?
From the South Bus Terminal, catch a bus bound for Barili – typically heading to Moalboal or displaying a "Bato via Barili" sign.
Getting to the resort offers two options:
The first is via the Vegetable Highway route, which isn't recommended due to its inaccessibility post-Typhoon Odette.
The second entry point is a road to the left, a little past the Milk Station. You'll spot a "MAYANA" sign along the road, often accompanied by waiting motorcycles. The fare is around ₱100-150 per person each way for a 10-minute ride. Since the cell connection is sporadic at best, it's wise to pre-arrange a motorcycle pickup time for the next day.
What to expect
The resort boasts three small huts, each with its own pool: Lupo, Luyo, and Cagay. The weekday rate is ₱1,500, while weekends are ₱2,000. This includes access to shared toilet and shower facilities, two communal pools, the river, waterfalls, and complimentary use of basic kitchen utensils, a portable stove, and one butane canister.
While the resort lacks an on-site restaurant, you can pre-order your meals.
The hut I booked accommodates two foam beds, an exhaust fan doubling as a regular fan (haha), and a mosquito killing device.
The highlight of this hut, for me, is its heart-shaped private pool. It's delightfully deep, allowing for full-body dips, and the water is refreshingly cold, being sourced from a flowing freshwater stream.
Just a few meters from my spot are public freshwater pools. Additionally, there's a bookable sauna available for ₱500/30 minutes.
Descending the stairs, you'll find accommodations for larger groups, complete with bigger private pools. I'll attach the list of available accommodations at the resort below.
As I mentioned, the resort boasts a natural waterfall, free for guests and day-use visitors. To enjoy the cold, refreshing waterfall without crowds, aim for a weekday visit, as weekends can get a little busy.
When I arrived, there was a family swimming by the falls. Additionally, there's a hut with a table nearby where people can eat.
Returning to my hut might be a bit of a challenge for older or knee-troubled individuals, as the ascent via a long set of cement stairs can be taxing – a bonus workout if you're up for it, haha.
Overall, the lure of a private pool in each hut led me to this overnight stay. While a couple of huts lack private pools, they're cheaper than the one I chose.
My time at the resort was undeniably wonderful – peaceful, rejuvenating, and a chance to clear my mind and focus on what truly matters. I wholeheartedly recommend it to those seeking relaxation and stress relief.
If you happen to find yourself in Cebu, do check out Mayana by Blue Space Mountain Resort. Trust me, it won't disappoint!
Sometimes in life, all you need is a tranquil refuge away from the online world, a space to ponder your next life steps. Mayana offers precisely that kind of retreat. Until my next post, Ciao!
