heute nehme ich Euch mit auf einen kurzen Trip nach Paderborn.
Paderborn ist eine Universitätsstadt mit über 153.000 Einwohnern. Bekannt ist Paderborn für seine Kirchen, insbesondere den Dom, für seine historischen Gebäude, das Paderquellgebiet und das Schloss Neuhaus, welches nur ein paar Kilometer entfernt ist.
Wir sind wegen der Veranstaltung 'Hochstift a la carte' nach Paderborn gekommen, von der wir schon einiges positives gehört haben. Dabei handelt es sich um ein Gourmet Festival inmitten des Stadtzentrums im Paderquellgebiet. Gekrönt werden sollte der Abend mit einer Lasershow, auf die wir und ganz besonders unser Sohn uns schon sehr freuten.

today I'm taking you on a short trip to Paderborn.
Paderborn is a university city with over 153,000 inhabitants. Paderborn is known for its churches, especially the cathedral, for its historical buildings, the Paderquell area and the castle Neuhaus, which is only a few kilometers away.
We came to Paderborn because of the event 'Hochstift a la carte', of which we have already heard some positive things. This is a gourmet festival in the middle of the city center in the Paderquell area. The evening was to be crowned with a laser show, which we and especially our son were looking forward to.
Zunächst checkten wir im Ibis Hotel ein, welches sich direkt am Stadtzentrum befindet, und wir somit nur ein paar Meter bis zu der Veranstaltung laufen mussten.
Unser Zimmer war recht klein, aber für eine Nacht ausreichend.
Nach dem Einchecken ging es direkt los in Richtung Paderquellgebiet im Herzen der Stadt. Vom Hotel aus waren es keine 5 Minuten zu Fuß. Auf dem Weg kamen wir schon an etlichen Restaurants und Biergärten vorbei, die schon gut gefüllt waren.
Angekommen am Paderquellgebiet fiel mir direkt auf, dass es viel kahler aussah, als ich es zuvor auf Bildern gesehen habe. In einem Info Flyer zur Veranstaltung konnte ich später nachlesen, dass im Mai ein Tornado verheerende Schäden im Paderquellgebiet angerichtet hat. Was früher einmal als 'grüne Lunge' der Stadt galt ist nun nur noch eine Grünfläche aus der der kürzeste Fluss Deutschlands entspringt... die Pader.
First, we checked into the Ibis Hotel, which is located right in the city center, so we only had to walk a few meters to the event.
Our room was quite small, but sufficient for one night.
After checking in, we headed straight for the Paderquell area in the heart of the city. It was less than a 5 minute walk from the hotel. On the way we passed several restaurants and beer gardens, which were already well filled.
Arrived at the Paderquellgebiet I noticed directly that it looked much more bare than I have seen it before on pictures. In an info flyer for the event I could later read that in May a tornado had caused devastating damage to the Paderquell area. What was once considered the 'green lung' of the city is now just a green space from which the shortest river in Germany springs... the Pader.
Trotz der durch den Tornado bedingten Veränderungen haben sich die Verantalter allergößte Mühe gegeben, das Gelände schön herzurichten. In weißen Pagodenzelten präsentierten Köche aus regionalen Restaurants ihr Können und die Gerichte wurden zu sehr moderaten Preisen angeboten. Die Tische waren mit Tischdecken eingedeckt und dekoriert. Das gab dem ganzen ein sehr stilvolles und einladendes Ambiente. In den meisten Fällen gab es sogar eine Tischbedienung, was dieses Festival von vielen anderen Food Festivals unterscheidet. Ich muss sagen, wir waren begeistert von diesem Event. An verschiedenen Plätzen gab es auch musikalische Untermalung.
Natürlich haben auch wir uns den lukullischen Genüssen hingegeben. Für meinen Mann gab es Ceviche von der Forelle und für mich gegrillte Garnelen. Es schmeckte ganz hervorragend :)
Despite the changes caused by the tornado, the organizers took great care to make the area beautiful. In white pagoda tents, chefs from regional restaurants presented their skills and the dishes were offered at very moderate prices. The tables were set and decorated with tablecloths. This gave the whole thing a very stylish and inviting ambience. In most cases, there was even table service, which sets this festival apart from many other food festivals. I must say, we were thrilled with this event. There was also background music at various places.
Of course, we also indulged in the epicurean delights. For my husband there was ceviche of trout and for me grilled shrimp. It tasted quite excellent :)
Nachdem wir uns gestärkt haben, sind wir zu einem kleinen Rundgang durch die Stadt aufgebrochen.
Vorbei am historischen Rathaus führte unser Weg recht schnell zum Dom von Paderborn, der uns mit seiner Größe überraschte.
After we had fortified ourselves, we set off on a short tour of the city.
Passing the historic city hall, our way led quite quickly to the cathedral of Paderborn, which surprised us with its size.
Schon von Weitem sieht man den 93 Meter hohen romanischen Turm des Doms aus dem 13. Jahrhundert, welcher sich am Marktplatz befindet.
Even from a distance you can see the 93-meter high Romanesque tower of the cathedral from the 13th century, which is located on the market square.
Durch diese Eingangspforte (hier nur der obere Teil davon) betraten wir das Innere des Doms:

Unser Sohn hat dann noch eine Kerze angezündet, um für etwas zu Bitten.
Ich muss sagen, dass uns der Dom sehr beeindruckt hat.

Ebenfalls auf dem Marktplatz befindet sich der Neptunbrunnen, ein Werk des Paderbroners Josef Rikus, welches in den Jahren 1977 - 1979 entstanden ist.
Also on the market square is the Neptune Fountain, a work of the Paderbroner Josef Rikus, which was created in the years 1977 - 1979.
Nach unserem Stadtrundgang sind wir noch einmal kurz zum Hotel gegangen, um uns mit Picknickdecke und Kühltasche auszurüsten.
Denn das Highlight des Tages stand uns noch bevor.
Wir gingen zurück zum Paderquellgebiet und machten es uns auf einer Wiese direkt an den Wasserspielen gemütlich. Hier sollte es nämlich ab 21:30 Uhr eine Lasershow geben, die wir uns natürlich nicht entgehen lassen wollten.
Die Wiese füllte sich an diesem lauen Abend Anfang September auch allmählich und wir konnten unser Glück kaum fassen, so eine schöne Atmosphäre bei so tollem Wetter am Ende des Sommers noch einmal genießen zu dürfen.
Wir hatten natürlich ein Fläschchen Wein, Käse Weintrauben und Snacks für unseren Sohn dabei und konnten so ganz entspannt auf den Beginn der Show warten und dabei das rege Treiben auf dem Gourmetfestival beobachten.
Nach und nach wurde immer mehr in buntes Licht gehüllt und die Wasserspiele tanzten im bunten Licht zur Musik.
After our tour of the city, we briefly went back to the hotel to equip ourselves with a picnic blanket and a cool bag.
Because the highlight of the day was still ahead of us.
We went back to the Paderquell area and made ourselves comfortable on a meadow directly at the water games. Here there should be a laser show from 21:30 clock, which we did not want to miss.
The meadow was gradually filled on this balmy evening in early September and we could hardly believe our luck to be able to enjoy such a beautiful atmosphere in such great weather at the end of summer once again.
Of course we had a bottle of wine, cheese, grapes and snacks for our son and so we were able to relax and wait for the show to start while watching the hustle and bustle of the gourmet festival.
Gradually, more and more was wrapped in colorful light and the water games danced in the colorful light to the music.
Die Lasershow die dann folgte war einfach nur grandios. Auf der Wiese sitzend befanden wir uns inmitten der Lichter, die von allen Seiten erschienen.
Eine tolle Komposition von Licht und Sound wurde erschaffen.

The laser show that followed was simply magnificent. Sitting on the lawn, we were in the middle of the lights that appeared from all sides.
A great composition of light and sound was created.

Live ist es natürlich noch einmal eine ganz andere Nummer, aber so habt Ihr eine kleine Vorstellung davon.
Bemerkenswert noch, das dort keinerlei Eintritt erhoben wurde und das ganze Gelände frei zugänglich war.
Ein ganz tolles Event, was wir im nächsten Jahr garantiert wieder besuchen werden!
Am nächsten Tag haben wir noch das Schloss Neuhaus besucht, aber die Bilder zeige ich Euch in einem anderen Post ;)
Live it is of course once again a completely different number, but so you have a small idea of it.
Remarkable still, that there was no admission fee and the whole area was freely accessible.
A very great event, which we will visit next year guaranteed again!
The next day we visited the castle Neuhaus, but the pictures I show you in another post ;)
