Spring of the Bosna River - Monument of nature

It was a foggy morning when my sister, during her stay in Bosnia and Herzegovina, headed to the Spring of the Bosna River. When I saw the photos, I remembered my visit to this fairytale place many years ago. It was sunny then, so the impression was a little different, colored by many shades of green. But it is difficult for anything to diminish the beauty of this place, so even the fog gave it a special charm.

It is a natural phenomenon with a human touch, transformed into a park and tourist attraction of great importance.

The park has been protected by the state as a natural monument for many years. The human influence is visible in this place, but what I like is that it is not excessive, but is present enough to not disturb the perfection of nature. There is only one restaurant in the park, where the main specialty is trout fish, which is an autochthonous species of this beautiful river.

Bosna River springs from many karst springs. The water is of high quality, so it is used for drinking.

The walking paths are arranged and the park is well maintained. It consists of several islands connected by wooden bridges under which streams of fresh spring water flow.

Streams form small lakes where you can see ducks and swans that make the surroundings even more beautiful.

This is one of those places that are perfect for escaping from the hustle and bustle of the city and everyday life. Very soothing landscapes will make you feel calm and de-stress for a while while listening to the babbling of the stream and the gentle breeze.

There is a lot of greenery around and the air is very fresh. Flora and fauna are very rich in species, many of which are endemic. It is a real natural treasure.

In the Spring of the Bosna river live caddisflies or water moths, small insects whose larvae live in water and adults on land and have wings. Their presence and density in water is used for biological assessment and monitoring of water quality.

The park is reached through a large avenue of chestnut and plane trees over 100 years old.

It looks like a big botanical garden and it used to be a classy place where, during the Austro-Hungarian rule, wealthy people bought houses to enjoy untouched nature and fresh air. It was a privilege of high society.

Recently, it often happens that people destroy nature by building large buildings in natural environments that were once protected, but now such protections are being neglected for money. I hope that this will not be the case with the Spring of the Bosna River and that the harmony between man and nature that can be felt here will last for a long time.
