Lake Correntoso is the second in order of appearance on our itinerary although many consider it the first on the Seven Lakes Route that goes from Villa La Angostura to San Martin de los Andes.
If we walk it in the opposite direction, it would be the penultimate one.
The explanation is very simple, as it is located in the middle of Lake Espejo and Lake Espejo Chico, considered by most tourists as one and the same. Lake Espejo, which I told you about in this post:

is visible from the road, while Lake Espejo Chico is a dirt and gravel road of a couple of kilometres until you reach a campsite and a spot from where you can admire all its beauty, go fishing, rest, hike, etc.
Numerical order aside, it is, like the rest of these marvellous water mirrors of glacial origin, a true paragon of nature.
Although its waters are a little more "tumultuous" than the rest of the lakes, it owes its name precisely to this characteristic. Correntoso comes from "corriente" (current) and this term, in the hydrological sense, means waters in continuous movement.
This characteristic is due to the fact that the kind of bay in which it is located suffers the onslaught of the winds, which although not very strong, serve to move the waters wedged between two mountains.
It has a fairly wide beach that can be explored on a nice walk. As you can see in the photo my wife and our faithful companion Zezé (the Toy poodle) enjoy this wonderful beach in its beautiful solitude while I try to pay homage to so much natural beauty through photos.
It was early in the morning, just after sunrise, as we had left early with our faithful Gol from San Carlos de Bariloche to be able to visit all the lakes in one day, as there are very few places to stay along the way and when they are found they are exorbitantly expensive.
During the summer, the busiest period, we have been told that there is an organised camping site, including a grocery store with essential foodstuffs, a nearby restaurant open only during this time of the year, an information office and some cabins to stay in.
We made this trip in early November, out of season, and found everything closed. We actually did it on purpose at this time of the year looking for the tranquillity and serenity of this wonderful place.
Most of these lakes join together to form new lakes and rivers. The Correntoso Lake, for example, near the city of Villa La Angostura joins with the Nahuel Huapi Lake, which I also told you about in this post:Travelling through the beautiful Patagonian lakes between volcanoes and millenary forests: Nahuel Huapi Lake, forming the Correntoso River, which is considered the shortest river in the world and a paradise for sport fishing.
Lake Correntoso is home to a large number of hidden bays that can be visited only with the help of a boat. Being out of season we could not find any available and were left with the desire to explore further.
Its pure and crystalline waters, as we have already seen in other posts, reflect the surrounding mountain range that accompanies a good part of the final stretch of this tourist circuit of world fame and indescribable beauty.

El Lago Correntoso es el segundo en orden de aparición en nuestro itinerario aunque muchos lo consideran el primero en la Ruta de los Siete Lagos que va desde Villa La Angostura hasta San Martín de los Andes.
Si la recorremos en el sentido inverso sería el penúltimo.
La explicación es muy sencilla ya que se encuentra en medio del Lago Espejo y Espejo Chico considerados por la mayor parte de los turistas como uno solo. El Lago Espejo del cuál les hablé en este post: El Lago Espejo representa uno de los rincones más bonitos que se pueden encontrar en la Ruta de los Siete Lagos, se ve desde la carretera mientras que el lago Espejo Chico hay que transitar un camino de tierra y ripio de un par de kms hasta llegar a un camping y a un paraje dede el cuél es posible admirar toda su belleza, practicar pesca, descansar, hacer caminatas, etc.
Orden numérico aparte es, como el resto de estos maravillosos espejos de agua de origen glaciar, un verdadero dechado de la naturaleza.
Por más que sus aguas sean un poco más "movidas", tumultuosas que el resto de los lagos, debe su nombre precisamente a esta característica. Correntoso viene de corriente y este término en sentido hídrico significa aguas en movimiento continuo.
Esta característica se debe a que la especie de bahía en la que se encuentra sufre el embate de los vientos, que si bien no son muy fuertes, sirven a mover las aguas encajonadas entre dos montañas.
Tiene una playa bastante amplia que se puede explorar haciendo una linda caminata. Como ven en la foto mi esposa y nuestra fiel compañera Zezé (la caniche Toy) disfrutan de esta maravillosa playa en su hermosa soledad mientras yo pruebo a rendir homenaje a tanta belleza natural a través de las fotos.
Eran las primeras horas de la mañana, apenas salido el sol, ya que habíamos partido temprano con nuestro fiel Gol desde San Carlos de Bariloche para poder visitar todos los lagos en un día, ya que durante el trayecto hay muy pocos lugares donde hospedarse y cuando se encuentran son exageradamente caros.
Durante el verano, período con la mayor actividad, nos han contado que en el lugar hay un camping organizado, incluyendo una proveeduría con los alimentos esenciales, en las cercanías hay un restaurante abierto solo durante esta época del año, una oficina de informes y algunas cabañas para alojarse.
Este viaje lo hicimos a inicio de Noviembre, fuera de temporada, y encontramos todo cerrado. En realidad lo hicimos a propósito en esta época del año buscando la tranquilidad y la serenidad de este lugar maravilloso.
La mayor parte de estos lagos se unen entre si formando nuevos lagos y rios. El Lago Correntoso, por ejemplo, en cercanías a la ciudad de Villa La Angostura se une con el lago Nahuel Huapi del cuál también les hablé en este post:

formando el río Correntoso, que es considerado el más corto del mundo y un paraíso de la pesca deportiva.
El Lago Correntoso alberga un gran número de bahías escondidas que se pueden visitar solo con el auxilio de un bote. Al estar fuera de la temporada no pudimos encontrar ninguno disponible y con quedamos con las ganas de seguir explorando.
Sus aguas puras y cristalinas, como ya lo hicimos ver en otros posts, reflejan el cordón montañoso circundante que compaña buena parte del tramo final del este circuito turístico de fama mundial y belleza indescrivible.
