In today's post, I want to share with you some photos that I took last Sunday when I was in the Brenta Riviera, in the beautiful city of Dolo, in the province of Venice. I wanted to explore this city because several friends had been here and were fascinated by its resemblance to Venice.
Indeed, Dolo is located on the left bank of the Brenta River, about 15 km from Venice, and it is well-known for the tourist route that connects Venice to Padua.
In Dolo, there are numerous historical buildings of tourist interest, including the magnificent church of San Rocco, built in the 1500s and characterized by a bell tower similar to that of San Marco. In fact, the bell tower of this church is the second tallest in the Veneto region, after the one in San Marco itself.
In the splendid town of Dolo, you can admire numerous 18th-century palaces that majestically overlook the Brenta River. Moreover, right here, near the city, you will find numerous residences and summer homes of the Venetian nobility. One of these is the magnificent Villa Pisani, of which I have already posted in my profile, offering a fascinating glimpse into the aristocratic life of that era. You will discover details and curiosities that will transport you to a luxurious and captivating world, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the history and grandeur of those bygone times.
Dolo, despite being a small-sized town, can be easily explored in about an hour. During my pleasant stroll, I crossed a picturesque bridge and caught sight of a mill that, although no longer functional, remains there as an element of decoration. Mills were once widespread in this area, but now they have been replaced by a lively culinary scene, with a myriad of restaurants and bars offering tasty delicacies. Dolo is a fascinating place where history blends with modernity, creating a unique atmosphere that invites you to immerse yourself in its picturesque beauty and enjoy an unforgettable culinary experience.
Subsequently, I made a stop in the area where the Brenta River used to flow, which now serves as a boarding point for numerous ferries connecting Padua to Venice. These boats make a stop here in Dolo, allowing visitors to enjoy a pleasant tourist visit.
I also visited Lo Squero, a building that was once used in the Republic of Venice for the repair of boats that the Venetian nobility used to reach the splendid Brenta Riviera. Today, this area has been transformed into a place where you can enjoy delicious meals, as the ancient boats are no longer in use.
In the photos I took, as you can see, it almost feels like being in Venice. I am delighted to have finally explored this place that I had in mind for a long time. My expectations were to find a slightly larger place with more attractions, but it is still a pleasant spot with a romantic atmosphere, especially in the area around the bridge, where you can enjoy something at the bar right along the Brenta River.
Indeed, in conclusion, I can say that Dolo is a fascinating destination that offers the unique combination of history, culture, natural beauty, and vibrant traditions. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a nature lover, or simply a curious traveler, Dolo will certainly surprise and enchant you with its authenticity.
Lastly, if you need tourist information, Dolo can be reached by bus from both Venice and Padua, so it is a destination that, in my opinion, should not be missed.
