Some time ago I decided to undertake the task of presenting my beautiful city, the truth is that it is a fact that makes me very excited, the truth is that for me it is a real privilege to be born in the extraordinary city of Barquisimeto. Some time ago, I made my first publication for this community where I showed you the Parque Jardin El Cardenalito, a beautiful park that welcomes us to the city; today we will go a little more to the center of the city where I will show you the Casco Historico de Barquisimeto.
Hace un tiempo atrás decidí emprender la tarea de presentarles mi hermosa ciudad, la verdad es un hecho que me hace mucha ilusión, a que la verdad es que para mí es un verdadero privilegio haber nacido en la extraordinaria ciudad de Barquisimeto. Hace un tiempo atrás, realice mi primera publicación para esta comunidad donde les mostré el Parque Jardín El Cardenalito, un hermoso parque que nos da la bienvenida a la ciudad; hoy iremos un poco más al centro de la ciudad donde les mostraré el Casco Histórico de Barquisimeto.

The cities in Venezuela have a particularity, it turns out that in each one there is a Plaza Bolivar and it is the place of reference for each city, town or village where we arrive. As many know Simon Bolivar was the liberator of five nations including his native Venezuela, in commemoration of this, the main squares of the country are named after him and are characterized because in the center of them there is a bust with the image of Simon Bolivar.
Las ciudades en Venezuela tienen una particularidad, resulta que en cada una existe una Plaza Bolívar y es el sitio de referencia para cada ciudad, pueblo o caserío donde llegamos. Como muchos saben Simón Bolívar fue el libertador de cinco naciones incluyendo su natal Venezuela, en conmemoración de ello, las principales plazas del país llevan su nombre y se caracterizan porque en el centro de las mismas hay un busto con la imagen de Simón Bolívar.
The Bolivar Square of Barquisimeto, is located in the center of the city and is part of the colonial area. The address of the square is on Carreras 16 and 17 with streets 25 and 26; around it we can find the main powers, such as the mayor's office, the main registry, courts, the tax office, among others; due to its proximity to the National Building we can see many lawyers and public accountants in this important square. Also sometimes you can see political meetings, delivery of aid by the mayor's office, graduations and any other political meeting; however it is a nice place to spend some time, as it is very well maintained.
La plaza Bolívar de Barquisimeto, se encuentra ubicada en el centro de la ciudad y hace parte de la zona colonial. La dirección de ella es en las carreras 16 y 17 con calles 25 y 26; alrededor de ella podemos encontrar los principales poderes, como por ejemplo la Alcaldía del municipio, El Registro principal, juzgados, la oficina de impuestos, entre otros; debido a su cercanía con el Edificio Nacional podemos observar muchos abogados y contadores públicos de esta importante plaza. También en ocasiones s puede ver reuniones políticas, entrega de ayudas por parte de la alcaldía, graduaciones y cualquier otro mitin político; sin embargo es un lindo espacio para pasar un rato, ya que se encuentra muy bien mantenido.
If we walk a little towards Carrera 15 between 26th and 27th streets we will find the General Jacinto Lara Barracks, an important building for the city. This building holds much controversy and has been used for various purposes, it has been built three times; at first it was intended for a prison, a situation that the population did not like very much for being right next to a hospital, but that building was destroyed by an earthquake. Later it was rebuilt as a military barracks until 1930 when President Eustoquio Gómez ordered it to be replaced by a building more in keeping with the times.
Si caminamos un poco hacia la carrera 15 entre calles 26 y 27 encontraremos el Cuartel General Jacinto Lara, un importante edificio para la ciudad. Este edificio guarda mucha controversia y ha sido utilizado para diversos fines, se ha construido tres veces; en un principio fue destinado para una cárcel, situación que a la población no le gustaba mucho por estar justo alado de un hospital, pero ese edificio fue destruido a causa de un terremoto. Posteriormente fue re-construido con la finalidad de que fuera un cuartel militar hasta el año de 1930 cuando el presidente Eustoquio Gómez lo mando a sustituir por un edificio más acorde a la época.
Approximately in 1960 this enclosure was used for the headquarters of the Piar Battalion of the Venezuelan Army; however it stopped being used for military purposes years later; some time later it was remodeled and improved to become the headquarters of the Dean of Humanities and Arts of the main house of studies of the state, the Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado, as well as the Municipal Institute of Culture and Art. The barracks is considered a cultural heritage and historical building so no renovations can be made in it, as the university works there I could enter and take some pictures inside, enjoy an incredible atmosphere of peace and tranquility, plus there is almost always instrumental music that the kids of the music career intoned in their classes.
Aproximadamente en 1960 este recinto se utilizo para sede del Batallón Piar del Ejército de Venezuela; no obstante dejo de ser utilizado para los fines militares años más tarde; tiempo después fue remodelado y mejorado para que se convirtiera en la sede del Decanato de humanidades y Artes de la principal casa de estudios del estado, la Universidad Centroccidental Lisandro Alvarado, así como también en el Instituto Municipal de Cultura y Arte. El cuartel es considerado un patrimonio cultural y edificio histórico por lo que no se puede realizar ninguna reforma en él, como allí funciona la universidad pude entrar y tomar unas fotografías en su interior, disfrutar de un increíble ambiente de paz y tranquilidad, además que casi siempre hay música instrumental que los chicos de la carrera de música entonan en sus clases.
Right next to the barracks is the Museum of Barquisimeto, right on carrera 15 between streets 25 and 26; it was built between the year 1878 and 1917, it can be said that it is the most important building in the city, unfortunately it is being remodeled so it was impossible to enter it. This precinct was created with the purpose of being a hospital, and so it was for a long time. In 1982 it became a museum institution, with the purpose of housing the historical and cultural memory of the state.
Justo alado del cuartel se encuentra el Museo de Barquisimeto, justo en la carrera 15 entre calles 25 y 26; fue construido entre el año de 1878 y 1917, se puede decir que es el edificio más importante de la ciudad, lamentablemente se encuentra en remodelación por lo que fue imposible entrar en él. Este recinto fue creado con la finalidad de ser un hospital, y así fue por mucho tiempo. Para el año de 1982 paso a ser una institución museística, esto con la finalidad de que en él repose la memoria histórica y cultural del estado.
Continuing our tour through this historic center we also find the house of Eustoquio Gómez, a beautiful colonial building built in 1928 with the purpose of being the residence of the governor (president of the state) Eustoquio Gómez, first cousin of the president of the country at that time Juan Vicente Gómez, where he resided with his wife and children. When the governor died, the building became a hotel, known as Hotel Alemán. It is currently the headquarters of the Tourism Corporation.
Continuando nuestro recorrido por este casco histórico también nos encontramos con la casa de Eustoquio Gómez, una linda edificación colonial construida en 1928 con la finalidad de ser la residencia del gobernador (presidente del estado) Eustoquio Gómez el primo hermano de quien fuese el presidente del país para ese momento Juan Vicente Gómez, allí estuvo residenciado con su esposa e hijos. Cuando el gobernador muere la edificación pasó a ser un hotel, conocido como Hotel Alemán. En la actualidad es la sede de la Corporación de Turismo.
Another aspect that we can see when walking through the historic center is the colonial style of the streets as they are cobbled and the houses retain that typical architectural form of colonial times with large windows, tiles and wooden doors ... No doubt it is a very nice place to visit if you want to know Barquisimeto.
Otro aspecto que podemos evidenciar al pasear por el casco histórico es el estilo colonial de las calles ya que son empedradas y las casas conservan esa forma arquitectónica típica de los tiempos de la colonia con grandes ventanas, tejas y puertas de madera… Sin ninguna duda que es un lugar muy agradable de visitar si desean conocer Barquisimeto.
